The Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has claimed that returning to Tottenham Hotspur is still Christian Eriksen’s number one priority this summer.
It was previously reported that Spurs were in a three-horse race for Eriksen’s signature along with Manchester United and Brentford (ESPN).
However, over the past week, multiple reports have indicated that the North Londoners are not expected to push ahead with a move for the Dane.
According to Football.London’ Alasdair Gold, those at Spurs are distancing themselves from the speculation linking them with the Dane, while The Sun’s Tom Barclay has claimed that Antonio Conte is happy with the options he currently has in the middle of the park.
Sky Sports reported on Thursday that with a return to Tottenham looking unlikely for the attacking midfielder, he is expected to make a choice between Man Utd and Brentford over the coming days.
However, Taylor believes that joining Spurs remains Eriksen’s number one priority this summer – even if the Lilywhites are not showing interest.
The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I think Eriksen may be forced to explore avenues outside of Tottenham, one of which is United. Obviously, they don’t have Champions League football.
“I believe Eriksen said it’s not essential for him, so that would appear to put United potentially in the driving seat for Eriksen if Tottenham do not back up their interest. I think Spurs are Eriksen’s priority.”
Spurs Web Opinion
With so many other reliable sources reporting that Spurs are not keen on Eriksen, it does not seem like a return to North London is on the cards for the Dane. Despite the lure of Manchester United, I would not be surprised if he committed his future to Brentford, given that the 30-year-old appears to be settled at the club.
