Now that the season has almost approached the halfway mark, pundits and experts are assessing how different teams have done this season compared to the expectations at the start of the season.
While Liverpool and Manchester City have been the two outstanding teams in the league and are going head to head for the title, Spurs have consistently secured results and are not far off the front two. In fact what makes Spurs performance even more impressive is the fact that they have played more away games than any other team in the division and have had to cope with the uncertainty of not knowing when they will move into their new stadium.
Further, there was doom and gloom surrounding the club at the end of the transfer window as Spurs became the first side since the inception of the summer transfer window to not add to their squad. However, Pochettino’s men have so far proved that this squad has the strength in depth to cope with the rigors of multiple competitions.
In a piece for The Mirror, Robbie Savage rated all Premier League clubs based on their showing so far this season. Savage was quite complimentary of Tottenham’s performance so far and opined that they will finish in the top 4.
He gave the club an ‘A+’ grade and wrote, “Massively over-achieving for a club whose squad cost less than Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele when they outplayed Barcelona to reach the Champions League last 16. They are going to finish in the top four again, despite all the uncertainty about when they will move into their new stadium, which is no mean feat.”
Liverpool and Manchester City are the only other clubs that secured an ‘A+’ grade from the former midfielder.
