Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has suggested that his side are in a good position to try and challenge for the Premier League title.
Speaking after Tottenham demolished Everton 6-2 at Goodison Park, the Argentine suggested that the Lillywhites just needed to focus on one game at a time.
The performance and the result this evening really sent out a statement to the rest of the Premier League as it took Spurs to within two points of Manchester City in second place.
Tottenham’s key players seem to be hitting form at the right time as Kane, Alli, Son and Eriksen all got on the scoresheet.
Pochettino said that he was particularly pleased about his side’s performance given that they had to come through a really tough midweek game against Arsenal.
When quizzed on Tottenham’s title chances, the 46-year old told Sky Sports, “Liverpool and City are the two favorites to fight for the Premier League. We are in a good position. But there are a lot of games to play.”
Pochettino further pointed out how Spurs have been more consistent this season than previous ones and said that it was something they needed to keep up for the rest of the season.
“If you compare the results from Tottenham in past seasons I think we were consistent, but it was not enough to be a real contender,” the Spurs boss added
“Now we are close but we need to be cautious, go step by step, game by game and we need to be conscious about that and fight a lot to be consistent.”
“We are involved in four competitions so it is going to be tough, but we are going to try.
“The mentality today is so clear, we need to think only about the next game and to be in the best condition to fight for these things.”
Tottenham fans will be hoping that Spurs can maintain the same ruthless form they have displayed in recent games, as they head into the business end of the season.
