Tottenham put in an outstanding performance to overcome Everton 6-2 at Goodison Park. The result took Spurs to within two points off Manchester City, one of the sides who are most fancied to win the title.
Right from kick-off, Tottenham looked switched on with their front four of Kane, Son, Alli, and Eriksen all looking really sharp. All four players got on the scoresheet as Spurs scored three in each half thus demolishing Everton.
The performance and the result sent a message to the rest of the Premier League that Spurs are well and truly in the title race. In a night filled with highs, there was one incident which would have concerned Spurs fans.
Dele Alli was seen holding his hamstring after a reckless challenge by Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford just before halftime.
The 22-year-old midfielder was replaced at the interval by Erik Lamela, at the half which certainly raised the concerns among Spurs fans about the extent of his issue.
However, Pochettino has suggested that the injury might not be as serious as feared.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game the Argentine said, “He didn’t feel a big problem. Maybe [he was] a little bit tired from Wednesday. I hope it’s not a big issue. It was a precaution.”
Poch later told Spurs TV: “I think he’s going to be okay and we hope it’s not a big issue but we need to assess him tomorrow.”
Tottenham fans will certainly be relieved to hear that update as Alli has been in fine form in recent games and the last thing Spurs need before the busy Christmas schedule is to lose another key player to injury.
