Speculation has been running rife linking Tottenham Manager Mauricio Pochettino with the managerial vacancy at Manchester United since Jose Mourinho was sacked on Tuesday.
The Old Trafford outfit have appointed former player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the interim manager until the end of the season in order to steady the ship.
While several names have been linked with the Man Utd job, Pochettino seems to be the favorite for the role with several former United players coming out in the press and naming the Tottenham manager as their preferred choice.
The Tottenham manager himself has not flatly denied the speculation and has instead chosen to remain coy about it.
The Express has run a story claiming that Pochettino is keen on taking over at Man Utd and that Tottenham would turn to Antonio Conte to replace him at the end of the season.
Conte, who is joint-favorite with the bookies along with Eddie Howe to take over at Tottenham if Pochettino leaves, masterminded a title win at Chelsea two seasons ago, pipping Tottenham by a few points. The Italian was subsequently sacked after the 17-18 season owing to Chelsea’s poor league showing that year.
Conte will be an astute appointment since he knows the league well and is one of the few big names who is without a job at present. However, one drawback could be the fact that Conte’s teams don’t play the ‘Spurs way’ as the Italian prefers to set his teams up in a pragmatic fashion.
It remains to be seen if there is any truth to these rumours but at this point, Conte certainly seems to be one of the favorites for the Tottenham job if Pochettino decides that his future lies in Manchester.
