Pundit Janusz Michallik believes that Harry Kane’s departure has benefited Son Heung-min, with the South Korean now being able to show his effectiveness in front of goal.

Son had stepped up and delivered on a few occasions when Kane was out injured over the years, most notably in Tottenham’s run to the Champions League final in 2019.

The South Korean has filled the void left by Kane’s departure so far, having found the back of the net eight times since being moved to the number nine role by Ange Postecoglou.

Given the number of chances that Spurs create and Son’s finishing prowess, it is certainly not out of the question that the Tottenham captain could push Erling Haaland until the end in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot.

Did Harry Kane do Heung-min Son a favour?

Michallik is far from surprised at the 31-year-old’s transformation from last season, admitting that he would have major questions about Spurs if the forward is unavailable.

The pundit told ESPN FC: “I think that’s a massive question for Spurs, because, here we are, we’ll talk about it maybe a little later too, are they better or worse [without] Harry Kane? But think about it. In the past, when one was off, there was one scoring consistently.”

“Let’s not forget Heung-min Son in his last season. Now, it’s Heung-min Son. He’s benefitted from the fact that Harry Kane’s left. But if he’s not there, then I’d have a major question about Spurs.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is funny how quickly pundits have moved on from ‘Spurs will really struggle without Kane’ to ‘Spurs will really struggle without Son and Maddison’. It certainly does not take a genius to figure out that losing your best players would be a blow to any side.

Chris Sutton believes that Harry Kane will wish that he had stayed at Tottenham Hotspur now that they have started so well under Ange Postecoglou.

Many pundits expected Spurs to struggle in front of goal this season following Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich in the summer.

However, Tottenham have not had any issues finding the back of the net so far this season, having scored 22 goals in their first 10 Premier League matches, with Son Heung-min stepping up to fill the void left by the England captain.

The Lilywhites have played some exciting football and currently sit at the top of the table, having won eight and drawn two of their 10 fixtures. Spurs’ brilliant star has led some to question whether Kane’s departure was actually a blessing in disguise for the side (90 min).

The 30-year-old has hit the ground running in Bavaria, having scored 14 goals and provided seven assists in 13 matches across all competitions (Transfermarkt).

Will Harry Kane regret leaving Spurs this year?

Despite his exploits at the Allianz Arena, Sutton believes that Kane will have some regret about leaving his boyhood club.

The pundit told BBC Radio 5 Live: “I bet Harry is a bit gutted he’s not at Spurs with Ange. Spurs now flying, playing attacking football. I bet there is a tiny bit of him who thinks I wish I’d have stayed in the Premier League.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think Kane is the sort of person to look back on his decisions and wonder ‘what if’. The striker is incredibly single-minded and mentally strong and the only thing he would be focused on at the moment is doing well for Bayern.

Michael Owen believes that Harry Kane made a huge mistake by leaving Tottenham this summer, insisting that the striker should have stayed at his boyhood club for one more season and left on a free transfer next year.

Kane’s decision to swap Spurs for Bayern Munch in the summer perhaps came as a surprise to some, given how close the striker is to breaking Alan Shearer’s Premier League goals record.

However, the England captain has insisted since that move that the record was not something he was particularly focused on and that winning silverware was always his priority (Sky Sports Football Daily).

The 30-year-old has certainly made an impressive start to life at the Bavarian side, having scored 11 goals and provided six assists in 12 matches across all competitions so far (Transfermarkt).

Despite the numbers that Kane is posting in Germany, Owen believes that the striker should have given Tottenham one more season and could have had the option of joining any club of his choice next summer.

Did Harry Kane make a mistake by leaving Spurs?

The former Liverpool striker told DAZN Bet (as relayed by The Metro): “Harry Kane is an unbelievable player and it shouldn’t be a surprise he’s still playing well, that’s just a given. He’s such a wonderful talent.

“But I don’t agree with his move from Spurs to Bayern, as I said at the time. He should have stayed at Spurs for another year. If he was so desperate to leave and to win trophies, then he could easily have had the world in his hands by going on a Bosman transfer at the end of the season.

“If Spurs miraculously started playing well and looking like title challengers, he could have always stayed, but regardless he would have had his destiny in his hands and gone to any club he wanted to all while he was getting closer to that Premier League goalscoring record and creating the perfect legacy with the club he’s been at all his life.”

Owen added that the only way for Kane to prove him wrong would be to win the Champions League at Bayern, insisting that winning the Bundesliga would not be an impressive achievement.

He continued: “Bayern are undoubtedly one of the biggest clubs in the world but for me to win a trophy, I don’t think there’s anything really special about going and guaranteeing yourself a Bundesliga trophy. Bayern will win the league with or without Kane, so I don’t think that was particularly a reason to leave.

“The only thing is that he gets to play in the Champions League, to have a chance of winning but in my book Manchester City will win it and if it’s not them then other teams have a chance too, Bayern being one of them, but City are the standout.

“I said at the time I didn’t think it was the right thing and I still stick by that. But if he goes and wins the Treble at Bayern, you can say I was wrong, but if he only wins the Bundesliga, then I would feel as strongly as I do now that it wasn’t the right move.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While I agree with Owen’s point, I am sure that Levy would have made it clear to Kane that he had to leave this summer if he did not sign a new contract.

In a way, we are lucky that Kane wanted to ensure that Spurs get a fee for him rather than standing his ground and leaving on a free transfer in a year.

Roy Massey has helped some exceptional talents develop at Arsenal, but he was also responsible for letting Harry Kane slip through his fingers. Now, the former academy coach has explained why that decision was made, and how he feels about it today.

During his time with Arsenal, Massey oversaw the progression of the likes of Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe from the academy through to the first team. Admittedly, the Gunners have a pretty prolific pipeline for young talent.

It’s one of the key reasons they are so strong right now, with homegrown talent combined with big-money signings to help Arsenal compete at the top of the Premier League.

Famously, one player Arsenal let go at a young age is Harry Kane. Luckily, he joined Tottenham shortly after, and the rest is history.

Kane went on to become Spurs’ all-time leading goalscorer this year, before leaving the club for Bayern Munich in the summer.

Why did Arsenal let Harry Kane go?

Speaking to Tribal Football, Massey revealed his thinking behind releasing Kane as a youngster, and discussed how it felt to watch him succeed at Spurs.

He said: “Every time he scored a goal for Tottenham and now for England, I do scratch my head a little bit over what might have happened if he’d have stayed at Arsenal.

“Years ago, before the youth academy at Arsenal started in 1998, you would be looking at lads aged 14 and 15 years of age when they were going through puberty. Academy football came in and then you’re looking at eight-year-olds and how can you tell what an eight-year-old is going to be like by the time he gets to 19 or 20?”

On Kane, he added: “There were several lads in that sort of situation, but of course Harry Kane was exceptional. He was a very quiet lad and probably didn’t have the physical attributes that we thought was needed.

“Obviously, that’s been turned on its head and Harry Kane is one perfect example who proved that at 11 or 12 years of age, he didn’t have the physical qualities, but he gained them as he went through puberty.

“I do remember he was a lovely lad. He was so keen and enthusiastic about his game. And looking back, he had a very good touch on the ball… But… at Arsenal, there were much quicker, stronger lads with bigger personalities. Perhaps he was overshadowed a little bit.”

Contemplating what could have been, Massey suggests things might never have worked out for Kane at Arsenal anyway: “If he’d come in and signed for Arsenal at 16 or 17 in those days, he’d have been competing with Thierry Henry to get in the first team at Arsenal… And maybe he might not have had the chance to continue his career at Arsenal.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I currently coach a bunch of six-year-olds, and the idea of determining which of them could make it as a Premier League player in 15 years time is insane to me.

Mistakes like letting Harry Kane go are always going to happen, as you just cannot predict how a player will develop. Luckily, it all worked out for Spurs in this instance.

John Barnes believes that some of the Tottenham players would have felt intimidated by Harry Kane, which is why they have now been able to come out of their shells and perform at their best after the striker’s departure.

Given that Kane scored 30 Premier League goals last season for a Spurs side that finished eighth, many pundits only foresaw Tottenham struggling this season after the departure of the England captain, with some suggesting the Lilywhites may not even finish in the top half (Football Insider).

However, Tottenham have improved considerably under Ange Postecoglou, deservedly sitting at the top of the table after nine league games, leaving many scratching their heads as to how it is possible that the side has improved despite losing the England captain.

How have Spurs improved despite Harry Kane sale?

Barnes believes it is a case of the players now taking more responsibility rather than looking at Kane to dig them out of a hole, drawing parallels with what happened at Liverpool following Philippe Coutinho’s exit.

The pundit BeMyBet (as relayed by Football.London): “Now that Harry Kane is gone, I felt that Tottenham would be a better team because the other players would show what they can do.

“And they are showing what they can do rather than being subservient to Harry. All the fans focus on Harry, you got to give him the ball wherever he plays. Now he’s not there, they are playing as a proper team which I felt would happen. So it doesn’t surprise me.

“That’s not to say Harry Kane wasn’t their best player or Coutinho wasn’t our best player. It’s more to say that when you’re at that big a club, the team has to be the most important thing.

“And now that they aren’t focusing on one superstar player who the fans get disappointed with if you don’t pass him the ball, the players probably felt intimidated by Harry Kane.

“Not that Harry is doing anything wrong, it’s just that the nature of his presence and what fans demand is that whenever he wants the ball, you give it to him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

We have seen time and again that not having that one big superstar changes the dressing room dynamic positively and that has evidently happened at Spurs this season, with many of the other players stepping up and taking more responsibility.

Ange Postecoglou has insisted that while the structure of the Tottenham team would not have changed if Harry Kane was at the club, he admitted that some dynamics would have been different, given the strengths and weaknesses of the England captain.

Spurs certainly look a much more cohesive unit than they did last season, which has got many wondering whether Kane’s departure has actually helped the Lilywhites.

Son Heung-min has stepped up to the plate and delivered as a number nine and Postecoglou’s men have not had any issues finding the back of the net, having scored 20 goals in their first nine Premier League matches.

LONDON, ENGLAND – AUGUST 06: Harry Kane (L) of Tottenham Hotspur celebrates with team mates after scoring the team first goal of the game from the penalty spo during the pre-season friendly match between Tottenham Hotspur and Shakhtar Donetsk at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on August 06, 2023 in England. Harry Kane would have thrived under Postecoglou

However, the Spurs head coach pointed out that Kane did just fine in his system during pre-season, netting four goals in the friendly against Shakhtar Donetsk.

When asked if Tottenham would have played a different way if the England captain had stayed, the Australian told Football.London: “Yeah, not necessarily in a different way but what I’ve been trying to explain is that individuals change the way you play.

“I’m not into this commentary that we’re a better team without Harry because the last game Harry played for us he did alright in our system when he scored four goals.

“It’s fair to say we would have been able to squeeze him in somewhere. And I’m being sarcastic there. But him not being there just allows to bring different individuals into the team and they change the dynamic.”

Postecoglou explained that he would not have moved away from his clearly defined structure if Tottenham’s record goalscorer had stayed but he conceded that the team would have played slightly differently as players affect the team’s dynamics.

H continued: “Again, while the way I want my teams to play has a really clear structure, what I try to do is create a balanced squad where individuals can change the dynamics of it.

“Having Sonny as our 9 is different from having Harry or even Richy as our 9. Having Deki as a winger or having Brennan Johnson as a winger changes it, even if the structure is the same.

“Not having Harry there does change us as a team because we’re using different individuals but if Harry was still here the structure would be the same and we’d have the same fundamentals of trying to dominate the opposition, press the opposition, all those kind of things would still be there.

“Ultimately I don’t want to suppress the qualities they have, I want to bring out the best of them within the structure we have.”

Spurs Web Opinion

We simply would not have been as effective in pressing the opposition with Kane in the side as for all his strengths, pressing from the front is one of the 30-year-old’s weaknesses.

That would have meant that we had slightly less possession than we do now and we would have created fewer chances by winning the ball high up the pitch.

However, given Kane’s quality on the ball, we would have been more dangerous when we worked the ball up to the final third and we would have been more effective in converting the chances that we create.

Pape Matar Sarr was asked to pick six Tottenham Hotspur players to create the perfect footballer, and named Heung-min Son, Gareth Bale, Kyle Walker, Yves Bissouma, Luka Modric, and Harry Kane as his ingredients.

Life at Tottenham is going pretty well for Pape Sarr right now. The 20-year-old signed for the club in the summer of 2021, but has only just started to flourish under his new manager, Ange Postecoglou.

The midfielder has formed a brilliant partnership with Yves Bissouma so far this season, and appears to be a key figure in Postecoglou’s squad now. Sarr has one goal and one assist in nine games this term (Transfermarkt).

It seems the sky is the limit for the young Senegal international, and he certainly has plenty of superstars to look up to, both in the current crop of Tottenham players, and among heroes from the recent past.

Sarr creates his perfect Tottenham footballer

In an interview with Fubo TV Canada, Sarr was asked to look at his teammates, and those who have featured for Spurs in the past, and assemble a perfect footballer.

When asked for a right foot, Sarr named his club captain, Heung-min Son. For the left foot, he chose former Spurs man, Gareth Bale.

In terms of speed, Sarr selected Kyle Walker, and for strength, he picked his current midfield partner, Yves Bissouma. Then, in the heading department, Sarr chose Harry Kane.

To conclude, Sarr was asked if his creation could win the Ballon D’Or, and Sarr replied: “Yes definitely.

Finally, Sarr then added: “You just add Modric’s football IQ.”

Spurs Web Opinion

What a player that would be. Now if we can just find a way to make that player a reality and make sure he signs for Tottenham, we’ll be in business. I can’t really think of any other way to improve on Sarr’s choices, to be honest.

Ben Davies says he thoroughly enjoyed sharing a dressing room with Harry Kane, admitting that he was sad to see the striker leave Tottenham in the summer.

Kane, who is undoubtedly one of Tottenham’s biggest modern-day legends, left his boyhood club to join Bayern Munich in the summer.

The striker, who became the club’s record goalscorer last season, was not just Spurs’ best player but also one of the most influential voices in the dressing room and the face of the club, which is why his departure signalled the end of an era in N17.

Davies knows the England captain well both on and off the pitch, having shared a dressing room with the striker for nine years since his move to the North London club from Swansea City back in 2014.

Ben Davies was sad to see Harry Kane leave Spurs

The left-back has now told TNT Sports: “I would say Harry Kane as well, it was sad to see him go after all this time, but he was an incredible player and I was lucky to play with him.”

Meanwhile, The Daily Mail revealed last week that Kane, who was back at Hotspur Way training with England during the international break, reconnected with former players and staff at the club and said a proper goodbye, having not had the chance to do so in the summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

There was certainly a big leadership void at Spurs in the summer following Kane’s departure and Lloris’ demotion, which has been filled admirably by the likes of Son Heung-min and James Maddison so far.

According to Tony Cascarino, Harry Kane has improved in the short space of time since leaving Tottenham, and looks more physically imposing than ever before.

Harry Kane was pretty good at Spurs, let’s be honest. The talismanic striker rose through the Tottenham academy to become the club’s all-time leading goalscorer, and will forever hold a legendary status among the fans.

After months of speculation, Kane ended his long affiliation with Spurs and made a big money move to Bayern Munich at the start of August. The deal to sign the England captain cost an initial £86m, but could rise to over £100m (Sky Sports).

It’s been a terrific star for Kane since he moved to Germany, too. The forward has nine goals and five assists in his first ten games for the Bundesliga champions (Transfermarkt).

He added to his international tally earlier this week, too, scoring two goals in the 3-1 win over Italy to help England seal qualification for next summer’s European Championships.

Is Harry Kane better than ever?

Commenting on Kane after the game, Cascarino was full of praise for the former Tottenham marksman, and explained how the 30-year-old has changed recently.

He told The Times: “I have never seen Kane look as physically imposing as he did against Italy… He was holding off opposition defenders with tremendous upper body strength, and on the rare occasions when an Italy player got close enough to give him a shoulder barge, he barely moved.

“Although he has never been easy to shove off the ball, the physicality Kane displayed throughout this performance was a step up from his Tottenham Hotspur days. However, he has not been at Bayern Munich long enough for this change to be solely a product of his move to Germany.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Kane has been on fire in his early days in Germany, and doesn’t look like he’s slowing down any time soon. I think that it’s quite natural for a player like Kane to show signs of improvement after joining a different league and finding himself up against a different challenge.

As per a report last week, Harry Kane has bid farewell to his former teammates and staff at Tottenham Hotspur, after being denied that opportunity during the summer.

Harry Kane ended his time at Tottenham this summer when he secured a big-money move to German champions Bayern Munich.

Despite becoming the club’s all-time leading goalscorer and earning the undying affection of the Spurs fans, Kane opted to leave his boyhood club in search of silverware.

Upon the eve of his transfer, Kane was refused permission to train with the rest of Ange Postecoglou‘s squad for one last time and thus was unable to say goodbye to those he had worked with for so many years (Telegraph).

However, it was revealed last week that Kane would be given that chance when on international duty with England (Daily Mail). With the England squad set to train at Hotspur Way, it was believed Kane was in line for full access to the facilities to reconnect with former colleagues.

Harry Kane finally says his Tottenham goodbyes

Now, the Daily Mail can confirm that Kane has been able to say those goodbyes, ahead of the game against Italy last night.

It is said that the England captain “reconnected with former players and staff” on Tuesday. The England squad actually arrived at the Enfield HQ last Thursday, but Kane had been keeping a “low profile” initially.

With the Three Lions squad leaving the facility yesterday, Kane took “time out” of the training sessions and used his opportunity to “reacquaint himself” with those he left behind in August.

Spurs Web Opinion

I think it’s great that Kane has been given this closure on his time at Tottenham. Hopefully, this settles any possibility of there being any bad blood between the player and the club now, and we can see Kane back at Spurs one day.

James Maddison insists he has not been teasing Harry Kane about Tottenham Hotspur’s terrific start to the season, and admits he wishes the striker was still a part of the squad.

When Spurs signed James Maddison in the summer, fans were tantalised by the prospect of the playmaker’s creativity and what it could do in conjunction with Harry Kanes incredible finishing ability.

Sadly, the pair barely got to play alongside one another in the white of Tottenham, as Kane left for Bayern Munich at the start of August.

Despite initial concern in the wake of Kane’s departure, Spurs have been flying under new manager Ange Postecoglou, and currently find themselves top of the Premier League table.

Maddison has been integral to that success, with the 26-year-old providing two goals and five assists in the first eight games of the season (Transfermarkt). Some have even claimed the midfielder has replaced Kane, in many ways.

Maddison wishes Kane had stayed at Spurs

Like many Spurs fans, Maddison has admitted he wishes Kane was still at the club, and said he had not been taunting the England captain about how the Lilywhites have flourished in his absence.

When asked by talkSPORT if the topic had come up, Maddison said: “No! Harry is the best number nine in the world I think, to be honest, I’m not sure there’s anyone better. So there’s been none of that.

“I wish we could have kept Harry, obviously, but he has gone on to his new journey and started brilliantly as I knew he would as he was a top player and a top professional, so none of that. Just a new chapter for both of us.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is interesting to wonder how things would be if Kane had stayed. I honestly don’t think we would be doing so well, but it’s all a bit of a Schrodinger’s Cat situation really; we will never know if Kane would have made us better right now, or hindered our evolution.

Harry Kane is delighted to see how well Tottenham Hotspur are doing this season but insisted that he has no regrets about leaving the club to join Bayern Munich in the summer.

Hardly anyone gave Spurs a chance of competing for a top-four spot this season after their record goalscorer completed a move to Bayern in the summer, with some pundits even suggesting that they would struggle to finish in the top half of the table (Football Insider).

However, Ange Postecoglou’s men are sitting at the summit of the Premier League table after the first eight games, having won six and drawn two so far.

Harry Kane has insisted that he always wanted to test himself away from the Premier League, which is why he will never regret the move to the Allianz Arena.

Harry Kane has no Tottenham exit regrets

When asked about potentially having second thoughts about the move, Kane told The Daily Star: “To experience a new league, if I got to 40 and I was retired and I looked back and never played in another league I would have always wondered what it would have been like. So now I am here, I am excited and it will always be a decision I never regret.”

The England captain admitted that despite the glittering career he has had so far, he still wants to continue improving as a footballer, and made it clear that he wants to play at the highest level for many years to come.

Kane added: “There is definitely room for improvement. I have been coming to a stage over the last year or two when it has been coming together, having the experience, knowing your body, knowing the way you want to play, playing in high-pressure games.

“When you look at a lot of the top-level players – Ronaldos, Messis, Lewandowskis, Ibrahimovich – they have almost got better as they hit 30. In a lot of sports that happens as well. Everything is maybe settled in your personal life.

“You have got family, you have got kids – so that side is all settled. You are comfortable with your body, you are comfortable mentally where you are at and that just allows you to focus on the football.

“The perception in sport or football in general is you hit 30 and people start to think the end. But the way I am looking at it is that I almost have the second half of my career

“I played in the first team at Spurs from 20 or 21 so I have had nine or 10 years at the highest level and I am hoping for another eight or nine years at the highest level again. It all depends.

“You see some players who want to have a different change or challenge so I would never be able to tell you what I will do but at the moment, I just want to keep playing.

“I think, with everything, with recovery, sports science and the way the game has been and adapted, it has allowed players to play for longer. We may have a bit more information over what the players had in the past.

“But when you look at the players you said [Ronaldo, Messi and Lewandowski]. That makes me believe and shows it is possible to play until your late thirties and that is what I am planning to do.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The Kane transfer is one of those rare instances where all three parties benefited immensely. This was the right time for Spurs to cash in on him (given his contract situation) since the club were starting afresh under Postecoglou.

The striker himself needed to add silverware to his CV while Bayern have managed to get the best in class in order to have a serious go at winning the Champions League.

Harry Kane admitted that he is over the moon to see how well Tottenham are doing this season, including the connection between the team and the fans.

Although Kane’s last season as a Spurs player was successful for him from a personal standpoint as he netted 30 goals in the Premier League, the campaign was disastrous for the side, who stumbled to a disappointing eighth-place finish.

The connection between the supporters and the club was as poor as it had been for a long time, with the owners coming in for major criticism.

However, Ange Postecoglou has managed to completely turn things around in a matter of few months, with the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium now rocking as Spurs go into the international break sitting at the top of the table.

When asked about the impressive start that Tottenham have made to the season, Kane told The Mirror: “It’s great to see. I think I’ve said before, the manager is doing great for them with the way they’re playing. The fans are right behind the team and it’s definitely what they needed after the last few years.

“I’ll always keep an eye on Spurs and the Premier League. Of course, there’s still a long way to go, but like the manager said, there’s no reason why the fans shouldn’t be excited and happy with the way things are going. Hopefully, they can continue.”

Harry Kane is still fully behind Tottenham Hotspur

The England captain could not take Tottenham to silverware during his time at the club but he insisted he would love to see nothing more than his boyhood club winning trophies this season.

He added: “I have made it clear my whole career I am a Tottenham fan and I would love to see Tottenham do well. There is no other team in the Premier League I would want to win than Tottenham.

“Also, I have to be respectful to Bayern Munich and of course, the fans know I will always have a soft spot for Spurs – there is no question about that – but I have got to put all my attention on Bayern Munich and to make us as successful as possible.

“So, I know there will be questions, for sure, particularly when Tottenham are doing well. Of course, I hope they do as well as possible but my main attention is where I am now and trying to perform for Bayern.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While it would undoubtedly be amazing to see Tottenham break their trophy drought and get their hands on silverware this season, if they do manage to do that, there will be a slight hint of regret that we did not manage that Kane was still at the club.

The 30-year-old fully deserved to have some trophies to show for his time in North London, given the brilliant service that he gave the club.

Bayern Munich’s honorary president Uli Hoeness has claimed the German giants only paid €95m (£82.1m) for Harry Kane this summer.

Fabrizio Romano reported in the summer, after the conclusion of the deal to take Kane to the Allianz Arena, that the transfer was worth £104m including add-ons.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold subsequently suggested that the fee could rise to as high as £120m if certain add-ons are met.

However, we have heard quite different numbers from the Bayern hierarchy so far, with the chairman of the club’s supervisory board, Herbert Hainer claiming last week that they would not even have to pay €100m (£86.7m) for the striker unless they win silverware (FAZ via TZ).

Harry Kane may have been cheaper than first thought

Hoeness has now become the latest Bayern official to assert that the Bundesliga giants have paid a considerably lower fee than reported for the 30-year-old.

He said (via Fabrizio Romano): “We only spent 95 million euros to sign Kane.”

The England captain has started the campaign in red-hot form for Bayern, with his assist against Freiburg on Sunday taking his tally to 14 goal contributions in nine matches across all competitions so far (Transfermarkt).

Spurs Web Opinion

Both Bayern and Tottenham are going to put out figures that are favourable to them to make it seem like they ‘won’ the negotiations. In reality, any conditional add-ons that are dependent on Bayern winning the Bundesliga are a near certainty, given their record.

Jermain Defoe has claimed that everyone associated with Tottenham wants to see Harry Kane succeed at Bayern Munich.

Kane will undoubtedly go down as Tottenham’s biggest legend of the Premier League era and some might even argue that he is the greatest player that the club have ever had.

However, it is fair to say that some of the comments that the 30-year-old has made since his switch to Bayern in the summer have not gone down particularly well with parts of the Tottenham fan base.

His assertion last month about there being more pressure at Bayern to pick up consistent results than there was at Spurs (Mirror), led to some backlash on social media.

The England captain has had an outstanding start to the season with 13 goal contributions (nine goals and four assists) in nine matches across all competitions so far, and Defoe believes that Tottenham fans want the centre-forward to succeed at the Allianz Arena.

Jermain Defoe wants to see big things from Kane

When asked about Kane’s move to Bayern, the 41-year-old told Stats Perform (as relayed by SportMax): “For Harry, it’s amazing for him and his family. It’s a new challenge.

“Everyone at Tottenham wants to wish him the best – we always knew he was going to do well anyway because he’s a world-class player. He’ll score goals anywhere. Nothing changes in terms of goals.

“We just want to wish him the best because Harry as a footballer is special but he’s a special guy and he deserves everything he gets.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Even though a vocal minority of Spurs fans on social media appear determined to find reasons to hate Kane, the striker will undoubtedly always be loved by an overwhelming majority of the fan base.

Journalist Dean Jones has predicted Jamie Donley will make his big breakthrough with the Tottenham Hotspur first team this year, and compared the youngster to Harry Kane.

Losing a player of Harry Kane‘s quality is never a good thing. A club legend, rising from the academy to become the all-time leading goalscorer for Tottenham, Kane’s legacy is immense.

Admittedly, Ange Postecoglou and his Spurs players have not exactly struggled in the wake of Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich. The Lilywhites are unbeaten in their first eight league games.

The likes of Heung-min Son and James Maddison have stepped up to provide creativity and goals this year, but Postecoglou could also have players in his youth squad to look to if needed.

Jamie Donley is one of the most promising stars in the Tottenham setup, and even made the bench for the Liverpool game last weekend.

Postecoglou recently commented on how ‘pleased’ he has been with Donley’s progress in the under-21s and in training with the first team this season (Football.London).

Jamie Donley is ready to take his chance at Spurs

Now, speaking to GiveMeSport, Dean Jones has revealed what he is hearing about Donley and his chances of making it in the Spurs first team.

He said: “Jamie Donley was listed among the substitutes after propelling himself into Ange Postecoglou’s thoughts with scintillating displays for Spurs’ under-21s and impressing in first-team training.

“At a time when cash is king in the Premier League – and finding a Harry Kane replacement is the trendy theme around North London – there is genuine hope for the emergence of an exciting forward who has been part of the club since Under-8s level.

“It’s early days but sources around Spurs believe there is a genuine chance he gets lift-off this season. It might not be too long until there’s a new chant around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium: ‘Jamie Donley, he’s one of our own!'”

Spurs Web Opinion

He’s already been on the bench once this season, and it won’t be the last time we see him among the matchday squad, I’m sure. Donley will no doubt make it onto the field for Spurs this season, and he does feel like the kind of player who, once he gets that big break, he won’t look back.

It has emerged that Harry Kane will be granted permission to visit the Tottenham Hotspur training ground next week, in order to finally say goodbye to his former teammates – something he was blocked from doing upon his move to Bayern Munich this summer.

After months of speculation, Harry Kane ended his long affiliation with Tottenham during the summer transfer window. The England captain secured a big-money move to German giants Bayern Munich, leaving behind his boyhood club in the process.

Despite being the club’s all-time leading goalscorer and an icon for the fans, Kane was reportedly not given the opportunity to bid farewell to his Spurs teammates and the staff when he moved on in August (Telegraph).

With old friends like Eric Dier and Heung-min Son in the Spurs squad, that must have been a painful moment for Kane. But, it sounds like there will be an opportunity to put that right in the near future.

Harry Kane will visit Spurs next week

In a report from the Daily Mail, it is claimed that Kane will visit Hotspur Way next week during the international break and be given the chance to reconnect with his former colleagues.

It seems Tottenham have performed something of a U-turn and have now “granted permission” to the 30-year-old to visit the club’s training facilities. Apparently, at the time of the move, Kane had requested to train with the squad one last time, but was refused as it was deemed “inappropriate.”

As part of England’s preparations for the upcoming double-header, however, Kane will be back at the Enfield facility prior to the game against Italy. With this in mind, it is believed Kane will be “permitted access to all necessary areas” of the training ground to catch up with old friends.

However, with it being the international break, there may be a few faces missing from the playing squad. But, at the very least, Kane will be able to say goodbye to the coaching staff at the club.

Spurs Web Opinion

This is nice. He may not get to see all the players, but the fact Kane can reconnect with the coaches and other staff at the club next week is really great and will mean a lot to both Kane and the staff, I’m sure.

Paul Robinson has said that it is frightening to think how good Tottenham would have been this season had they kept Harry Kane at the club.

Many Spurs fans were understandably worried about where the goals were going to come from following Kane’s departure this summer, with the striker having carried the club on his shoulders for quite a while.

However, based on the evidence of the first seven games of the season, Spurs have become a better team despite losing the 30-year-old, thanks to their smart recruitment in the summer and the style of play that Ange Postecoglou has instilled.

As expected, Kane has started like a house on fire at Bayern Munich, having scored nine goals and provided four assists in his first nine games across all competitions for the German giants (Transfermarkt).

Spurs would be scary with Harry Kane in the team

Robinson believes that the England captain would have already scored a bucketful if he was leading the attack for this new-look Spurs side.

The former Tottenham number one said on The Debrief: “Are Spurs better without Harry Kane or is it just a different way? It’s frightening to think if Kane was in that team with James Maddison and Kulusevski the way he has been playing, how many he would’ve scored already.”

Spurs Web Opinion

At the highest level of the game, we are often talking about a difference of one or two per cent, tactically, mentally and physically.

A football dressing room has a delicate dynamic and we cannot say for sure that we would have been this good had Kane stayed at the club, although it is quite plausible that we would have been even better.

All things considered, this summer was the right time for the club to sell the 30-year-old and put an end to all the speculation. The deal suited all three parties.

Gus Poyet believes that Harry Kane will wonder how Ange Postecoglou has completely transformed things at Tottenham in such a short space of time, but the pundit insisted the striker will not have any regrets over joining Bayern Munich.

When Kane left Tottenham in the summer, most pundits discounted the Lilywhites from the race for European qualification, let alone the top four, with some even suggesting that they would struggle to finish in the top half of the table (Football Insider).

However, Spurs look a transformed side under Ange Postecoglou and have undoubtedly improved despite losing their record goalscorer.

There also seems to be a connection between the club and the fan base that was missing over the last few years, which is arguably down to the kind of attacking football that the side is now playing, which is much more in line with the club’s traditions.

Poyet believes that Kane will be bewildered at the change in style, given that they played defensive football over the past few years, but the Uruguayan insisted that the 30-year-old will be happy with his decision to move to the Allianz Arena.

Harry Kane will be wondering about Ange-ball

When asked what will be going through the England captain’s mind, the former Tottenham midfielder and assistant coach told The Sun: “Harry Kane is doing very well at Bayern Munich so he can’t have any regrets about leaving Tottenham.

“I’m sure he will be wondering what has happened at Tottenham given that he spent the last three years playing in his own half in a defensive setup and now they are suddenly playing offensive football and he is not there.

“I think Ange Postecoglou has made an incredible impact and the football is amazing. There have been a few games which have seen a lot of goals and that was expected but I think that was welcome for Spurs fans. Now it is a matter of seeing whether they can maintain that.

“The impact has worked well but now it is about whether or not they can maintain the adrenaline and keep performing at that level rather than settling down and getting comfortable. That is the most important step for Tottenham to take in the next two or three months.

“I don’t think Harry Kane will have any regrets about leaving Spurs because he is playing for one of the best teams in the world in Bayern Munich where he is going to be challenging for every trophy, but for sure there will be something inside him thinking that what is happening at Spurs is incredible.

“Every decision made by a player can have a positive impact on another and we have seen that with Heung-min Son who has become a more important player and he is scoring goals and having an impact again down the middle.

“He proved the other day against Arsenal that if you give him the chance, he will score a lot of goals, especially when playing this kind of football.”

This summer was undoubtedly the right time for Tottenham and Kane to part ways as the club were embarking on a new project and the striker needed to add silverware to seal his legacy in the game. This is one of those rare big-money transfers that all three parties would be quite pleased about.

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has claimed that the German club will not even have to pay €100m (£86.7m) for Harry Kane unless they win several trophies.

Fabrizio Romano reported in the summer after the conclusion of the deal to take Kane to the Allianz Arena that it is worth £104m including add-ons.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold subsequently suggested that the fee could rise to as high as £120m if certain add-ons are met.

Bayern Munich comment on true Harry Kane fee

However, Hainer has now stated that those figures are overblown, with all the bonuses depending on Bayern winning silverware.

The German club’s president told FAZ (as relayed by TZ): “Harry Kane didn’t cost more than €100m – unless we win this, this and this in the next few seasons. Without bonuses, we are under €100m.”

Kane has certainly hit the ground running since his move in the summer, with the striker having registered 13 contributions (nine goals and four assists) in eight matches across all competitions.

Hainer has remarked that Bayern had to pay a premium for the Tottenham man due to the goal guarantee he offers, which only a few strikes in world football do.

He added: “There are only a few strikers in this category who, on the one hand, fit us and, on the other, make us better. And because there are only a few, they come at a price.

“With Harry Kane, we finally have a goal guarantee again – he stands where a striker has to stand and he also scores a lot of goals.”

Tottenham and Bayern will both put out favourable figures in order to show that they ‘won’ the negotiation. However, one would think that any add-ons which depend on Bayern winning the Bundesliga are close to a guarantee, given the club’s recent record.
