Tottenham Hotspur treated their fans to a fine display last Saturday afternoon, overcoming newly-promoted Fulham 3-1 at Wembley.
The doom and gloom surrounding club after the transfer window inaction and the postponement of the move-in date to the new stadium, was swiftly overcome after the 60,000 people in attendance were treated to some excellent football by Pochettino’s men.
The result also took Spurs to the summit of the league table, all be it just for 24 hours before Man City and Liverpool took to the field on Sunday and Monday respectively. Here are 5 things we learned about the team, from the performance against Fulham:
5) Set-piece kings
Even the most hard-line Christian Eriksen fan would admit that the quality of his set pieces have left a lot to be desired over the last couple of seasons. Both from corners and direct free-kicks, his levels have dropped sharply compared to his first couple of seasons with the club.
That is why Kieran Trippier’s recent dead ball exploits is a very welcome sight for Spurs fans. His inch-perfect free-kick against Fulham from was a sight to behold. There is no doubt that moving forward, Trippier will demand a larger share of the dead-ball situations and hopefully that competition will also bring the bet out of Eriksen again.
Overall, it was a really good week for the club not only due to the performance and win but also because both Arsenal and Man Utd lost their games. While it is too early in the season to get carried away, a win at Old Trafford next week will go some way towards proving if we are indeed a different kettle of fish compared to last year.
