According to a report in A Spor (as translated by Sport Witness), Tottenham are ready to step up their interest in Fenerbahce midfielder Ismail Yuksek at Ange Postecolgou’s insistence.
Yuksek has been a consistent performer in the Turkish top flight for the last couple of years and he has been a regular in Turkey’s national side since last year.
Tottenham’s interest in the defensive midfielder first came to light earlier this month when Aksam claimed that the North London club were one of the sides watching the player.
Spurs step up interest
A Spor have now asserted that Yuksek is being ‘closely followed’ by Spurs ahead of the January window.
The outlet states that the Lilywhites have ‘stepped in’ to sign the 24-year-old because of Postecoglou, who likes the midfielder’s style ‘very much’ and has already started ‘detailed research’ on him.
The report states that Tottenham are planning to send their scots to Turkey to watch Yuksek in action during Fenerbahce’s clash against Trabzonspor on November 4.
However, the publication adds that apart from Spurs, the player is also on the radars of both Napoli and Bayer Leverkusen.
Spurs Web Opinion
Tottenham will enter the market for a midfielder in January since Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is likely to depart. However, the club might not want to pursue a high-profile name such as Kalvin Phillips, who would expect to start.
Given the form that Bissouma and Sarr are in and the fact that Bentancur is now back, the Lilywhites might take a gamble on a potential squad option such as Yuksek.
