According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Atalanta could look to target Merih Demiral or Takehiro Tomiyasu, two players who are also rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar, should they lose Cristian Romero this summer.

Over the last few days, reports coming from Italy have suggested that there is still some distance between Atalanta and Tottenham in their negotiations for Romero.

It has been claimed that Spurs opening offer for the Argentine international had been rejected, with Atalanta demanding £47m ‘immediately’ for the 23-year-old this summer.

The Guardian claimed on Tuesday that Tottenham were not willing to meet Atalanta’s asking price for the defender and view Tomiyasu as one of the potential alternatives.

TMW have now revealed that the Japanese defender is also on the radar of Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.

The report explains that while the Atalanta boss would like to keep hold of Romero, the Bergamo club could cash in on the Argentine and reinvest the money into the squad.

It is asserted that Atalanta could look to strike a deal with Bologna for Tomiyasu if Romero departs.

The club are also said to be eyeing Juventus defender Demiral, another player thought to be on Fabio Paratiic’s radar, as a potential Romero replacement.

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect one of the reasons Paratici is unwilling to meet Atalanta’s asking price is because he knows of the Bergamo club’s intention to cash in on their prized asset in order to raise funds for their targets. So, I am still optimistic that the two clubs will reach an agreement for the 23-year-old sooner rather than later.
