Fabrizio Romano has eased the fears of some Spurs fans by revealing that Cristian Romero remains Fabio Paratici’s priority target this summer.
Over the last couple of days, it has become evident that Tottenham and Atalanta are still some way from reaching an agreement for Romero’s transfer.
Reports in the British press suggested on Tuesday that Spurs are not willing to meet Atalanta’s £47m asking price for the 23-year-old and could instead turn their attention to their other centre-back targets.
However, The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare has explained that those close to the negotiations are still confident that the parties will reach an agreement regarding the Argentine international.
Romano has now given his verdict on the matter, explaining that Paratici has been a fan of Romero for a long time and is extremely keen on bringing him to North London.
The journalist asserted that the Spurs managing director of football is not even contemplating a plan B in case the deal for the Atalanta star does not work out.
Romano said on the latest episode of the Here We Go Podcast (as quoted by GiveMeSport): “Romero is the plan A, plan B and plan C because they love the player. The special link is with Fabio Paratici.
“He signed him from Genoa in Italy when he was working for Juventus and now he wants him back at Tottenham because he sees Romero as perfect for Premier League football with his leadership, he’s a player for the future too.”

Fabio Paratici’s apparent keenness to get Romero is the one factor that still gives me optimism that we will manage to get the deal over the line.
With some sources in Italy now claiming that Tottenham have made a final take-it-or-leave-it offer for the 23-year-old, we will likely get a better idea over the next few days whether the deal is likely to go through.
