Tottenham Hotspur may have been handed a boost in their attempts to sign Cristian Romero, with multiple sources now reporting that Atalanta are looking to snap up Augsburg defender Felix Uduokhai as the Argentine’s replacement.
Tottenham have been locked in negotiations with Atalanta over Romero and there was still thought to be a significant difference between the two clubs’ valuations of the centre-back until a couple of days ago.
Reports from Italy claimed on Wednesday that the North London club had made one final take-it-or-leave-it £47m offer for the 23-year-old.
Sources are now suggesting that the Bergamo club are pushing ahead with a move for Uduokhai.
Sport 1 journalist Florian Plettenberg has said that the Serie A club have already had talks with Ausburg regarding the Nigerian, who they see a potential replacement for Romero.
CalcioMercato have also reported that Atalanta are ‘very interested’ in Uduokhai, who is thought to be valued at €15m (£12.7m).

If Atalanta are serious about their pursuit of Uduokhai, that suggests that the club do expect to cash in on Romero.
So it seems apparent that Ataltanta’s hardball stance on the Argentine is driven by their desire to milk as much out of the deal as possible rather than by an intention to hold on to the player.
