Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that the progress in talks between Tottenham and Atalanta regarding Cristian Romero has now slowed down.

It was Gold’s positive report on the Romero negotiations that got some Spurs fans excited last week as he revealed that the North Londoners were confident of getting a deal for the 23-year-old over the line.

However, since then, reports from Italy have indicated that there is still a significant gap between what Atalanta are demanding for the centre-back and what Spurs are offering.

CalcioMercato claimed on Wednesday that Tottenham had made a final take-it-or-leave-it £47m offer for the Argentine international, with some sources even suggesting that the Lilywhites could turn their attentions to the likes of Nikola Milenkovic or Kurt Zouma if Atalanta do not change their stance.

Gold has now admitted that the negotiations between the two clubs have stagnated.

The journalist stated that while Romero remains Fabio Paratici’s number one target, Tottenham will now make a decision over whether to push closer to the Serie A club’s demands or put that money towards their other centre-back targets instead.

It seems like a case of who blinks first between Atalanta and Spurs. Given what we know about the way Paratici operates, the Italian could turn his attention to the likes of Milenkovic just to force Atalanta to reconsider their asking price for Romero.
