Cristian Romero has refused to put a limit on Tottenham’s ambitions for this season, insisting that the team can achieve great things if they stick together.
The expectations among Spurs fans coming into this season were the lowest they had been for quite a while, given that the club limped to an eighth-place finish last campaign and are now embarking on a new era after the departure of their talisman Harry Kane.
Tottenham also have a manager in charge who is not proven at the highest level but the team has made a positive start to the season under Ange Postecoglou, and Romero believes that there is no reason that the Lilywhites cannot win silverware if the players play at their best.
The Argentine told The Evening Standard: “I’m someone who thinks nothing is impossible, so if we keep up this level let’s see [what we can achieve].
“All the players are going to give everything, along with the staff, to take Tottenham as high as possible and try to win trophies. Things take time, but if we’re together, I believe we can achieve great things.”
Cristian Romero says the fans have a big part to play
Many who were in attendance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against Manchester United remarked that the atmosphere was more buoyant than it has been for a while, and Romero called on the fans to continue sticking with the team when they go through a difficult spell.
He said: “Our fans were fantastic against Manchester United. We have to thank them, but I hope they can remain with us even if we hit a rocky patch.
“The past is the past and we’re focused on this season. After a great victory against Manchester United, we need to do it again. It’s difficult to stay at that level, but if we want to compete this season and achieve great things, this is the only way.”
Spurs Web Opinion
The feeling among the fan base now seems very similar to the Redknapp and Pochettino eras, with the supporters now looking forward to matches again, rather than simply worrying just about somehow grinding out three points.
That is clearly a result of the front-foot football that Postecoglou is trying to implement. While there will undoubtedly be quite a few bumps along the way, this season promises to be quite an enjoyable one even if we finish outside the top four.
