Cristian Romero has showered praise on Ange Postecoglou, remarking that the Australian is exactly what Tottenham needed on the back of last season.
It is fair to say that Postecoglou’s appointment did not go down well with a section of the Spurs fans, with the #NoToAnge even trending on Twitter just ahead of the 57-year-old’s arrival.
However, less than three months after taking the job and just three games into the campaign, the newcomer already appears to have won over the entire fan base.
The front-foot football he is trying to implement has been a breath of fresh air while he has also said all the right things to the media.
Vice-captain Romero loves life under Postecoglou
Romero has now hailed the impact that the new Spurs head coach has had on the squad since arriving through the door at Hotspur Way.
The centre-back told The Evening Standard: “He’s a coach that works perfectly for Tottenham, he’s brought a lot of new hope. It might take a while, but I think what he’s doing is fantastic. He’s putting together a great group and creating a really good atmosphere.
“It’s only been two or three months, but all of the team are behind him. It’s always positive to have a coach who wants to assume responsibility, and the club needed this new energy.
“It’s not like someone new comes in and [suddenly] you’re winning. It’s a process. A process requires time and it’s not easy to win trophies, but that’s what the coach wants and that’s what we want. I think if the club continues in this direction with this coach we’re going to achieve great things.”
The Argentine admitted that Postecoglou has brought everyone at the club together and insisted that the sky is the limit for Spurs if everyone sticks together.
He added: “From day one, [Postecoglou] asked us to be a family. It’s not just 25 players. I’m talking about the staff, the club, everyone from the president to the youngest player, we all have to go together in the same direction. It really is the only way we can achieve great things.”
Spurs Web Opinion
While Conte and Mourinho have world-class CVs, their track record shows that they can often cause ruptures within the dressing room due to their confrontational leadership style, particularly towards the end of their stints at clubs.
It was clear that there was a divide among the squad at the end of last season and the club needed someone one like Ange to bring everyone together. One can see from the players’ body language that they are enjoying their football again, which seemingly was not the case for much of last season.
