Cristian Romero has revealed that Giovani Lo Celso wants to stay at Tottenham Hotspur and fight for a place in Ange Postecoglou’s starting eleven.
Lo Celso was one of Tottenham’s standout players in pre-season but the midfielder continues to be linked with a move away from the North London club.
Over the last few days, it has emerged that both Barcelona (Javi Miguel) and Real Betis (Rudy Galetti) are trying to push through a late deal for the Argentine before the window closes.
Lo Celso made his first appearance for Spurs in almost two years on Saturday at the Vitality Stadium, with the 27-year-old coming on for Yves Bissouma in the 74th minute to help the Lilywhites see out a 2-0 win.
Postecoglou admitted in his post-match press conference that the midfielder has been unlucky not to get more game time (Football.London) and the player himself took to social media to express his delight at wearing the Tottenham shirt again.

Lo Celso wants to stay at Tottenham this season
Romero has now revealed that his compatriot wants to stay in N17 and insisted that he can be an important player for the side.
The centre-back told The Evening Standard: “Gio is a fantastic player. Obviously, I know him, he’s my friend, but Gio the player can bring so much to Tottenham.
“He’s an intelligent player, he can bring so much to the forwards. I hope he can stay and he has chances. I know he wants to stay. He’s willing, he wants to compete and have a great year in the Premier League. That’s really important.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I fully expect Lo Celso to start the Carabao Cup second-round tie against Fulham on Tuesday and I am excited to see how the Argentine will do.
The number eight role in Postecoglou’s system suits him perfectly and I believe that the 27-year-old can be a valuable squad player for Ange over the course of the campaign.
