Speaking after the huge win over Burnley this afternoon, Ange Postecoglou reserved special praise for Heung-min Son, James Maddison, and Cristian Romero.
Tottenham visited Turf Moor in the league today looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the new Premier League campaign, and Ange Postecoglou‘s men duly delivered.
Spurs took all three points from their trip up North in a 5-2 win over Vincent Kompany’s newly-promoted side. The Lilywhites had to come from behind, however, with Burnley taking the lead within the first five minutes.
A goal from Heung-min Son levelled the scores before Cristian Romero gave Spurs the lead just on the stroke of half-time with his second goal of the season.
In the second half, Spurs really turned up the heat on the home side. A fine goal from James Maddison was followed by another two from Son to complete his hat-trick.
Postecoglou is happy with the leaders in his squad
In his post-match press conference, it was the three goalscorers who attracted praise from their manager, with Postecoglou revealing how happy he is with the players he has given extra responsibility to.
He told Football.London: “I thought today was a real testament to Sonny, Madders and Romero. They all scored but those three I’ve thrust into leadership positions and the way they’ve embraced that responsibility with not only words but actions, not just on game day but on a daily basis and that’s as encouraging for me as anything. As fantastic players as they are individually they’ve all really bought into that team ethic.”

What a performance from the whole team, but for the three players who Postecoglou has put into his leadership group to come up with the goals is just extra special.
I think it shows just how much those players have bought into what Ange expects of them, and they’ve delivered to an incredible standard today.
