The Daily Mirror have revealed that Tottenham sent out an email to fans informing them that England’s World Cup semifinal will be screened at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, after the Three Lions were knocked out of the competition by France.

There was plenty of drama at the Al Bayt Stadium in Qatar on Saturday as Harry Kane was tasked with beating his Tottenham teammate Hugo Lloris from the spot for the second time in the 84th minute to draw England level.

However, unlike his first penalty of the evening, which the 29-year-old smashed into the top corner, he blasted his second one over the bar, which meant the defending world champions progressed to the final four at the Three Lions’ expense.

It turns out that Spurs subsequently sent out an email that should have only gone out had England beaten Les Blues. The Mirror have revealed that the heading of the email read: “A world-class venue for World Cup screenings”.

The text then continued: “Watch England in the World Cup Semi-Final at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Experience the excitement and drama of a World Cup Semi-final at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. With a place in the Final at stake, England’s date with destiny awaits on Wednesday 14th December, 7 pm KO. Will Gareth Southgate’s men make it to a first World Cup Final since 1966?”

The Mirror claimed that this has been the second blunder Spurs have committed in a matter of days after they mistakenly congratulated Richarlison on social media for progressing to the semifinals before deleting the post and expressing their commiserations to the 25-year-old.

These are not the sort of errors that you would expect a business like Spurs, who are worth billions of pounds, to be making. Someone in the club’s marketing team would have likely been given an earful after this goof-up.
