The Sun have claimed that Ange Postecoglou wants to bring Celtic’s prolific forward Kyogo Furuhashi to North London if he does become the next Tottenham head coach.
As expected, the speculation linking Postecoglou with the Spurs hot seat has gathered steam following Celtic‘s Scottish Cup final win over Inverness on Saturday, with some outlets reporting over the last 24 hours that the Australian is edging closer to the North London club (The Athletic).
The Sun now suggest that should the Celtic boss replace Antonio Conte, he will want to bring Furuhashi with him from Glasgow to London.
The Japanese international has been prolific since signing for the Bhoys from J League club Vissel Kobe back in 2021, with the 28-year-old finding the back of the net 34 times in 54 appearances in 2022-23 (Transfermarkt).
According to The Sun’s update, the versatile forward, who can play across the front three, was already on Tottenham’s radar as cover for Harry Kane or even an eventual replacement for the England captain.
It is asserted that Spurs’ chances of winning the race for Furuhashi would increase drastically if Postecoglou is appointed as the next head coach.
The publication adds that the Lilywhites are prepared to pay £25m-£30m for the forward but the Celtic star is also said to be on the radars of other Premier League clubs.
Spurs Web Opinion
While Furuhashi is clearly too good for the Scottish top flight, the jump up to the Premier League would be a huge one and there is nothing to suggest that the 28-year-old is ready to make the step up.
Furuhashi’s goal record in the J League is decent but certainly not spectacular while he has only been capped 16 times for Japan, scoring thrice, which raises questions over whether he is good enough for Spurs.
