Football Insider have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are expected to agree a ‘very low’ compensation sum with Celtic for Ange Postecoglou, who is expected to be announced as the next Spurs head coach this week.
Postecoglou’s move to Tottenham now appears to be gathering steam, with Fabrizio Romano taking to social media this morning to reveal that the North London club had reached a verbal agreement with the Celtic boss.
The journalist added that the 57-year-old is now expected to sign a two-year deal with the Lilywhites, with an option of an extra year, with the Premier League side expected to now focus on striking a deal with Celtic.
If Football Insider’s latest update is to be believed, reaching an agreement with the Glasgow giants is expected to be straightforward for Tottenham since it would take a ‘very low’ compensation sum for Postecoglou to be released.
This is because the Australian is on a 12-month contract and is thought to have resisted offers from the Bhoys hierarchy to extend his deal. The report suggests that with Postelogou now having said ‘yes’ to Spurs, the move is expected to be finalised this week.
Tottenham were previously faced with the prospect of paying a hefty compensation fee thought to be around £12million for Arne Slot, before he decided to sign a new deal and remain at Feyenoord (Evening Standard).
Postecoglou was coy about his future at Celtic in an interview with BBC Scotland on Saturday after guiding them to a domestic treble: “I’m going to be a little bit selfish,”
“People around me have all worked hard to enjoy this moment, so that’s what I’m going to do. I will enjoy it for as long as I can before people drag me away to talk about other things.”
When pushed about his lack of clear answer, he added: “Because I think I deserve to enjoy this moment just like everyone else. I worked really hard for this moment.
“I owe it to my friends and to my family. I get why you have to ask the question, but from my perspective, I deserve to enjoy this moment.
“There will be a time to come for those kinds of questions but for now, we’ve grasped a small chunk of history for ourselves and I’m not going to pass that by by being side tracked.”

The nature of Postecoglou’s contract and the low compensation means that there is unlikely to be a repeat of the Arne Slot situation, with Feyenoord’s demand of a sizable fee ultimately seeming to scupper the deal.
Tottenham would want to get Ange Postecoglou‘s appointment over the line as soon as possible so that they can start finalising their plans for the summer transfer window.
