Tim Sherwood has urged the Tottenham hierarchy to do everything in their power to bring Roberto De Zerbi to the club as their next head coach.
It has now been a month and a half since Antonio Conte departed Tottenham but we are no closer to finding out who is likely to replace the Italian at the helm.
Some reports over the last week have suggested that Spurs are now focused on appointing a sporting director before resuming their search for a new head coach (Football Insider).
One man who is no longer in the running to take over at N17 is Julian Nagelsmann, with Tottenham, reportedly pulling out of the race for the German last week (Evening Standard).
It was reported last Friday by The Daily Mail that with Nagelsmann no longer in contention, De Zerbi, along with Arne Slot and Luis Enrique have now emerged as contenders to take over at Hotspur Way.
Sherwood believes that the Brighton boss is the ‘perfect’ candidate for the Lilywhites, given that he is already proven in the Premier League.
The former interim Spurs head coach told Sky Sports Football Daily about the 43-year-old: “For me, the perfect man out there who has rehearsed in the Premier League, who I have seen now, if it was me making the decision, I would do everything to get De Zerbi to get him to the football club.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Right from the beginning, De Zerbi has been my number one preference. In fact, he is the one man that I would have even taken over Nagelsmann and Pochettino.
I found it quite weird that Spurs seemingly ruled out the Italian early in the process due to fears over his temperament.
For me, the 43-year-old would certainly be a safer bet than the likes of Slot or Alonso but it remains to be seen if he would leave Brighton for the Tottenham job.
