90 min have asserted that Ange Postecoglou was third on Tottenham’s pecking order after Julian Nagelsmann and Arne Slot.
Tottenham have been linked with a whole host of managers over the last two and a half months since Antonio Conte‘s departure but they have finally settled on a permanent replacement.
Following his treble-winning season with Celtic, Postecoglou was announced by Tottenham yesterday and looks set to bring an attacking brand of football back to N17.
Some Spurs fans might wonder how far down the pecking order the Celtic boss was, given the sheer number of managers who have been linked with the hot seat in N17 over the last few months.
Naglesmann and Slot were failed to be convinced over Spurs job
90 min have suggested that the Australian was the third name on Tottenham’s wishlist when Conte departed, behind both Nagelsmann and Slot.
The publication claims that Spurs ‘failed to convince’ the German that the role was the right fit for him and following Slot’s decision to stay at Feyenoord, they turned their attention to Postecoglou.
This is of course different to Tottenham’s version of events, with the club allegedly stating last month that they simply did not see Nagelsmann as the right fit for the job (Evening Standard).
Spurs Web Opinion
I do not think it was merely Naglesmann rejecting Spurs or vice versa, but rather a combination of the two.
I suspect that when Tottenham realised that they had to convince the German to take the job (as they had to do with Conte), they probably realised that it would not be the right fit and that they would rather hire someone who was keen on the role.
I think that is understandable as the last thing that the club needed was another manager who thought the job was beneath him and he was doing Spurs a favour by being here.
