Australian national team boss Graham Arnold has revealed that he had an opportunity to watch Ange Posteocoglou’s training sessions at Tottenham, admitting that the Spurs head coach does things differently from most managers.
There has been a lot said and written about the differences between Postecoglou and his predecessor, Antonio Conte, with the two not only being very different as people but also having completely different footballing philosophies.
Among their dissimilarities is also how they work on the training pitch, with the players often talking about how gruelling training was under the Italian.
In fact, we even saw the likes of Son Heung-min and Harry Kane collapse to the ground during pre-season last summer after being made to run 42 pitch lengths following a training session in the heat of Seoul (Daily Mail).
Postecoglou does things differently at Tottenham
Arnold has now given us insight into how sessions under Postecoglou are quite different, with the Spurs players being put through short, sharp sessions with the ball.
He told The Athletic: “I went to watch Tottenham train and Ange is still coaching. I spent the day with him, watching, having a laugh.
“I watched them train and you could see the energy of the players, they were all on their tippy-toes, loving it. From what I hear, a lot of managers have two-hour sessions and it’s slow, but for Ange, it’s short, sharp sessions.”
Spurs Web Opinion
After having to work on repetitive drills under Mourinho and Conte, with a lot of focus on off-the-ball work and positioning, it is not surprising that the Spurs players are absolutely loving life under Ange and his coaching staff, now that they have a chance to express themselves.
