According to Sport, Barcelona are ready to sell Ansu Fati permanently next summer, with Tottenham being one of the clubs following the player’s situation closely.

During the final few days of the summer transfer window, there were some suggestions that Spurs could win the race for Fati (Sky Sports), but the Barcelona star eventually ended up joining Brighton on a season-long loan, with the North London club snapping up Brennan Johnson instead.

Fati has made a promising start to his spell at the Amex Stadium, having scored three times for the Seagulls so far across all competitions (Transfermarkt).

Ansu Fati to be put up for sale by Barcelona

If Sport’s latest update is to be believed, Barcelona ‘need to sell’ the Spain international next summer, due to their ongoing financial issues, with clubs across European football said to be queuing up for the player.

This includes Spurs and Chelsea, who are now both allegedly on ‘red alert’ after hearing about the development.

The report adds that Fati will ‘listen to proposals’ for a permanent move away from Camp Nou next summer and that the 21-year-old ‘believes’ that several ‘important clubs’ could bid for him next year if he does well at Brighton.

The publication reveals that several Saudi Arabian clubs are also keeping tabs on the La Masia graduate.

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect Tottenham pulled out of the race for Fati’s signature this summer because of the fact that Barca only sanctioned a straight loan without any option to buy. If the Catalan club do decide to sell the 21-year-old permanently, I expect Spurs to vie for his signature.

Sport have revealed that Saudi Arabian clubs have reached out to convey their interest in signing Ansu Fati, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

During the final few days of the summer transfer window, there were some suggestions that Spurs could win the race for Fati (Sky Sports), but the Barcelona star eventually ended up joining Brighton on a season-long loan, with the North London club snapping up Brennan Johnson instead.

Fati has made an impressive start to his spell at the Amex Stadium, having scored twice in five Premier League appearances so far (Transfermarkt).

The Seagulls do not have the option to sign him permanently, and according to The Daily Express, Tottenham may try again to sign the player next summer, with Ange Postecoglou alleged to be a fan of the 20-year-old.

Saudi clubs and Spurs are interested in Ansu Fati

However, if Sport’s latest update is to be believed, Spurs might have some tough competition to contend with for Fati’s signature, with Saudi Pro League clubs alleged to have reached out regarding their interest in the youngster.

The report states that while the Spain international views a move to the Middle East as a ‘distant possibility’ for the time being, some members of his entourage are very much in favour of such a move.

The publication explains that as things stand, the Barcelona hierarchy have not made a decision on Fati and want to see how he gets on at Brighton for the rest of the season.

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect that the reason Tottenham walked away from the Fati deal in the summer is because of Barca’s unwillingness to include a permanent sale option in the loan deal. If the Catalan giants do put the 20-year-old up for sale next summer, I expect Spurs to reignite their interest.

Former Tottenham player Jack Clarke is on fire for Sunderland right now, and is attracting a lot of attention from Premier League clubs. If he is sold, it is thought Spurs could receive a cash injection thanks to a clause in the deal to sell him to the Black Cats.

Tottenham signed Jack Clarke from Leeds United back in 2019, but never managed to really get going for the Lilywhites. In total, he made just four first-team appearances for Spurs over the years (Transfermarkt), with the majority of his time spent out on loan.

Loan spells at QPR and Stoke were followed by a successful stint with Sunderland. That move became permanent last summer, in a deal believed to be worth up to £10m (Alasdair Gold).

Since then, Clarke has gone from strength to strength, scoring goals for fun and looking like one of the best players in the Championship over the last two seasons.

Spurs may have a 50% sell-on clause for Clarke

Naturally, that kind of form is going to attract attention, and Sunderland are now thought to be fighting off interest from the likes of Crystal Palace, Brighton, and Burnley for their star man.

That’s according to a report from TeamTalk, who claim a number of Premier League clubs are keen to swoop for Clarke. It is believed Sunderland value the 22-year-old at “around the £20m mark,” and that could be great news for Spurs.

Apparently, there is a clause in the original deal to sell Clarke that guarantees Tottenham a sell-on percentage.

While the “cut of a future sale has not been disclosed,” the report suggests it could be “as high as 50%,” which would significantly offset the investment the North London club originally made in the youngster.

Spurs Web Opinion

It’s great to see Jack Clarke thriving at Sunderland and it’s surely only a matter of time before he is back in the Premier League, either with or without the Black Cats.

It will be interesting to see whether they can hold on to him in January, but any club that snaps him up will be getting a top talent.

Journalist Dean Jones has revealed that Alejo Veliz was on Brighton’s radar this summer before Tottenham swooped for the Argentine starlet.

Brighton have garnered a lot of praise for their recruitment strategy over the past few years, managing to consistently find hidden gems to replace the stars they have sold off for big money.

That is perhaps why Tottenham reportedly revamped their recruitment structure in the summer by developing a data model from discussions with betting experts, allegedly taking inspiration from the Seagulls (Telegraph).

Brighton also looked at Alejo Veliz this summer

It has now emerged that Veliz, who Spurs picked up in the summer after he exploded onto the scene at Rosario Central, was a player that Brighton had also identified as a potential target.

The 20-year-old, who arrived in North London in a £12m deal, made his debut for Tottenham’s Under-21s in their 5-0 win at Colchester last week, earning praise from academy coach Wayne Burnett for his display (Spurs Play).

Jones has suggested that Ange Postecoglou could ‘unleash’ the young centre-forward during the second half of the season.

He told GiveMeSport: “He has been scouted by clubs including Brighton and Rangers and while they stuttered over committing to him, Spurs took him on as they see him as a player that can make his mark on the Premier League.

“This first season is important for bedding him and helping him to understand exactly how he is going to do that. We will see him sparingly before Christmas but by the end of this campaign he could be fully unleashed.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I would not be surprised if Tottenham decide to loan out Veliz to a Championship side or potentially a club like Luton Town or Burnley during the second half of the season so that the youngster can get a taste of competitive action in English football.

Y Net News have revealed that Manor Solomon rejected offers from multiple Premier League sides to sign for Tottenham this summer.

Solomon’s arrival at Spurs this summer has gone a bit under the radar as it has been overshadowed by bigger-money acquisitions like James Maddison, Micky Van de Ven and Brennan Johnson.

However, the 24-year-old has certainly made a promising start to his career at the North London club, having forced himself into Ange Postecoglou’s starting eleven and delivering two impressive displays against Burnley and Sheffield United.

It was reported by The Athletic back in July that Solomon had his heart set on a move for Spurs this summer and rejected the chance to return to Fulham as well as an approach from Barcelona to seal the move to N17.

Manor Solomon rejected Aston Villa and Brighton

Y Net News have now claimed that Brighton and Hove Albion and Aston Villa also tried to sign the Israeli international during the summer transfer window.

However, it is explained that the pacy winger only ever had eyes on the Lilywhites and thus immediately rejected the approaches from the Seagulls and the Villans.

Spurs Web Opinion

One can see why Postecoglou really likes Solomon as he is quite aggressive and looks to take on his full-back one vs one at every opportunity, which is something that the likes of Kulusevski and Son do not do with regularity.

Tottenham Hotspur decided to pass up their interest in Brighton and Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson as a 15-year-old due to scouts believing that he lacked the physicality expected, according to Football Insider.

Ferguson has had an impressive start to the new season with Brighton after he became the sixth-youngest player to score a hat-trick in the Premier League following his prolific display against Newcastle United prior to the international break.

The Republic of Ireland international has a contract until 2028 at the Amex Stadium and has also attracted interest from the big guns, with Manchester City said to be weighing up a bid for Ferguson, which is expected to eclipse the British transfer record £115million paid by Chelsea for Moises Caicedo, Ferguson’s former team-mate on the south coast (iNews).

Spurs passed on the opportunity to sign Evan Ferguson

Tottenham tracked Ferguson while he was still playing in Ireland and were in the race to land him from Bohemians but while being left impressed, they felt he had reached his full size and had doubts whether he would be able to cope with the demands of the English top flight.

SpursWeb Opinion

Ferguson could, if he continues to develop go on to eclipse Harry Kane and Alan Shearer as the Premier League’s top goalscorer, however, it appears that Tottenham have missed the boat on his signature due to the hefty fee Brighton are likely to demand.

The Seagulls have proven with their negotiations with Chelsea for Caicedo they aren’t prepared to sell on the cheap and with Ferguson having a number of years left on his deal, it would be the likes of City who would break the bank to sign the forward rather than Daniel Levy.

According to iNews, Manchester City are now exploring a potential move for rumoured Tottenham target, Evan Ferguson.

His stock has only risen even further in light of the impressive start that the Irishman has made to the season, having found the back of the net four times already this season (Transfermarkt).

It was widely reported during the summer transfer window that Spurs considered a move for Ferguson as a potential replacement for Kane (TEAMtalk) but various outlets have suggested that the Lilywhites were priced out of the move by the Seagulls, who demanded a whopping £120m (Goal).

Man City now set to enter race for Evan Ferguson

iNews have now stated that City are among a number of Premier League clubs monitoring Ferguson’s progress.

The publication asserts that the teenager’s impressive start to the season has sparked interest from ‘nearly everyone’ of the Premier League’s Champions League contenders, including Pep Guardiola’s men.

It is alleged that while City view a move for Ferguson as a potential contingency plan in case Erling Haaland moves to Real Madrid in the future, they also believe that the Republic of Ireland international can play alongside the Norwegian goal machine.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that all the big guns will be eyeing Ferguson in the coming transfer windows, with the striker looking overwhelmingly likely to break the British transfer record. There is no chance that Spurs would get involved in a bidding war for the 18-year-old.

The Athletic’s James Maw has claimed that Evan Ferguson could be sold for a world-record transfer fee by Brighton next summer.

Multiple outlets, including TEAMtalk, reported during the summer transfer window that Tottenham explored a potential move for Ferguson once it became clear that Harry Kane would leave the club but Brighton had no intention of parting ways with the starlet.

Some other publications, including Goal, suggested that the Seagulls had put a £120m price tag on the youngster to ward off interest from the Lilywhites and other potential suitors.

Ferguson, who is contracted at the Amex Stadium until 2028, has started the new campaign on fire, with a hat-trick against Newcastle on Saturday taking his tally to four in four Premier League matches so far (Transfermarkt).

Maw has now predicted that the Republic of Ireland international could be sold for a higher fee than the world record €222m (£190m) fee that PSG paid to sign Neymar from Barcelona back in 2017.

Evan Ferguson could cost £200m, journalist predicts

The journalist said on the View From The Lane podcast: “He’s going to break the transfer record by the way. £200m that’s my prediction now.

“I think it might even have been too late by this summer. I think if Spurs had been properly in for him this summer I think someone else might have jumped the queue.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Given the length of Ferguson’s contract, I certainly would not be surprised if Brighton demand a world-record fee for the striker next summer if he gets more than 20 goals this season, which he looks quite likely to.

This includes TEAMtalk who claimed on August 13 that even though Spurs knew it would be a ‘tough deal’ to pull off due to Brighton’s unwillingness to sell the 18-year-old, the North London club did their ‘due diligence’ on a potential move for the striker.

Both Goal and talkSPORT also subsequently backed up Tottenham’s interest in the Republic of Ireland international but both publications revealed that the Seagulls had put a £120m price tag on the youngster to scare off the Lilywhites.

Ferguson has been on fire at the start of the season, with four goals in the first four Premier League games, with his value looking set to skyrocket ahead of next summer.

Tottenham should sign Evan Ferguson next summer

However, O’Hara believes that Tottenham need to break the bank to bring the Brighton star to N17.

The pundit told Sky Sports about Ferguson: “I think he’s tremendous. Been talking about him for a couple of years now and he’s absolutely sensational, he’s got everything. He reminds me of Harry Kane, but better, because Kane wasn’t even playing Premier League at that age.

“He’s very much in the mould of Kane. He’s another £80-100m player. I don’t know where Brighton keep digging these players.

“If Tottenham have anything about them next summer, then next summer, sign Ferguson for whatever it takes. We know Brighton sell. Tottenham should go sign him, spend the Kane money on him. He’s the future.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Ferguson is already beyond our price range and there is no chance that Tottenham would be willing to pay the sort of fee that would be necessary to prose him away from the Amex Stadium.

Spurs are evidently trying to find the next up-and-coming stars before they explode, which explains their capture of Alejo Veliz and why they strongly considered a move for Gift Orban.

The Athletic have revealed that Ansu Fati was convinced until Wednesday that he would be heading to Tottenham Hotspur before Brighton made a late move for him.

Tottenham concluded a deadline-day deal for Brennan Johnson, with several outlets indicating that the 22-year-old was Ange Postecoglou’s top attacking target (The Telegraph).

Until Thursday, there were some suggestions that Spurs could sign Fati instead of the Wales international (Sky Sports), but the Barca star eventually ended up joining Brighton on a season-long loan.

Fati thought he was heading to Tottenham

The Athletic have claimed that by Wednesday, Fati had decided that he would leave Barcelona in search of regular game time, with the attacker having communicated the same to Xavi.

The outlet states that while the forward’s agent, Jorge Mendes, put out the word that his client was available, Spurs were ‘tempted’ and decided to include the player on their shortlist of wide players to follow up.

It is explained that the structure of Mendes’ offer was always a loan without an option to buy. It is alleged by sources close to Fati that the 20-year-old seemed convinced about the idea of joining Spurs.

However, Roberto De Zerbi is thought to have called the Spain international and promised him an important role in the Brighton set-up, which swayed the player to move to the Amex Stadium instead.

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect Spurs only showed interest in Fati and Johan Bakayoko to put pressure on Forest to relax their demands for Johnson. The North Londoners might have made a more concrete effort for Fati if Barcelona had been willing to include an option to buy in the loan deal.

Sky Sports point out that Fati was one of three wide-forwards on Tottenham’s radar along with Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson and PSV Eindhoven’s Johan Bakayoko. However, it now appears that Fati is joining Brighton and Bakayoko is going to Brentford.

The outlet said that Johnson remained the Lilywhites’ top target but they would have to pay in excess of £40m to prise him away from the City Ground. It remains to be seen whether Daniel Levy and co will get the deal done in time.

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect that one of the reasons Tottenham opened talks with Barca regarding Fati is to put pressure on Forest to reduce their asking price for Johnson. I fully expect Spurs to get a deal for the Wales international over the line before the window slams shut.

Sky Sports Football Daily have now claimed that Tottenham’s pursuit of Ansu Fati may not be completely dead despite Brighton’s advances for the player.

On Sunday, several Spanish outlets suggested that Spurs were leading the race for Fati’s signature and that the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, was working to finalise his switch to the North London club (Mundo Deportivo).

However, it emerged this morning that Brighton had agreed to a deal with Barcelona to sign the 20-year-old on a season-long loan, with Fabrizio Romano even giving his ‘here we go’ seal of approval to the transfer.

The journalist suggested that the versatile forward is expected to arrive in England today to complete his medical ahead of his switch to the Amex Stadium.

Spurs still have hope of signing Ansu Fati

However, Sky Sports have now stated that while Fati is indeed flying to the UK today, the Seagulls have not yet fully concluded the deal.

The outlet claims that Tottenham continue to remain in talks with Barcelona over a deal for the Spain international.

Spurs Web Opinion

Fati would not be travelling to England for a medical unless Brighton had already agreed on a deal with Barca. So, I’m quite sceptical of this update from Sky.

If it is true that no option to buy is expected to be included in the deal, I can see why Tottenham would have pulled out of the race for the 22-year-old.

In what comes as a blow to Tottenham, Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Brighton have agreed a deal with Barcelona to sign Ansu Fati on loan.

It was widely reported by various outlets on Wednesday that Spurs were locked in talks with Barca over a loan deal for Fati, with Mundo Deportivo asserting that the Lilywhites were in pole position to land the forward.

The publication even suggested that the 20-year-old had informed Sevilla that he was heading to Tottenham and that his agent, Jorge Mendes, was trying to finalise an agreement swiftly.

Brighton have won the race for Ansu Fati over Spurs

Brighton have now seemingly come from nowhere to land Fati, with Romano taking to social media to give his ‘here we go’ seal of approval for the transfer.

The journalist revealed that the Spain international will head to the Amex Stadium on a straight loan deal without an option to buy, with the Seagulls covering the majority of the players’ salary.

Romano added that Fati will travel to the South Coast for his medical today as Brighton want the deal done as soon as possible.

Spurs Web Opinion

There was no way Tottenham were going to accept a loan deal for Fati without any option to buy. So, if that was the player’s preference (or Barcelona’s), I can see why Spurs pulled out of the deal. If we wanted Fati on loan, we would have certainly gotten him ahead of Brighton.

According to talkSPORT, Tottenham remain interested in Evan Ferguson, with Ange Postecoglou said to be a big fan of the Brighton starlet.

It was reported by TEAMtalk two weeks ago that Spurs have explored a potential move for Ferguson following Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich.

The outlet explained that it would be a ‘tough deal’ for Tottenham to pull off as the South Coast club have ‘little appetite’ for any approach for Fergusson.

The report added that Spurs, nevertheless, did their ‘due diligence’ on various options to replace Kane, which is why they wanted to check on the Republic of Ireland international.

Last week, Goal reported that Brighton had put an eye-water £120m price tag on the young striker to ward off interest from Tottenham and other suitors.

Spurs remain interested in Evan Ferguson

Brighton’s £120m asking price has now also been backed up by talkSPORT but they insist that Spurs have not ended their interest in the player just yet.

The report adds that the 19-year-old remains the North London club’s preferred long-term replacement for Kane, with Postecoglou said to be a ‘big admirer’ of the centre-forward.

The publication asserts that Spurs have so far held off making a move for Ferguson this summer as they are aware that the Seagulls are determined to keep the 19-year-old at the Amex Stadium.

Spurs Web Opinion

Ferguson has many admirers across the Premier League as the youngster appears to be a complete centre-forward with very few weaknesses. I would not be surprised if one of the big clubs break the British transfer record to sign the teenager next summer, which is why he is likely out of Tottenham’s price range.

A new report on the future of Evan Ferguson suggests that Tottenham Hotspur will face intense competition from London rivals Arsenal if they hope to sign the Brighton and Hove Albion striker next summer.

With the departure of Harry Kane earlier this month, Tottenham are now thought to be looking for a new number 9 to lead their attacking line. Whether the club will acquire a new striker during the summer transfer window, or wait until next summer, remains to be seen.

Spurs appear to have adjusted to life without Kane fairly well, so far, but his goalscoring output is sure to be missed eventually. Luckily, the North London club have another £100m in the bank thanks to the transfer of Kane (Sky Sports).

And they may need every penny of that, if reports are to be believed. The Lilywhites have been strongly linked with Brighton forward Evan Ferguson previously (Sky Sports), and that interest is only likely to intensify as the young striker continues to impress for his current side.

However, with a contract running until 2028 and his stock rising, Brighton are believed to have put a huge £120m price tag on their talented attacker (GOAL).

Arsenal are now favourites to sign Evan Ferguson

Spurs are not alone in their admiration of the young Irish striker, however, and it is now suggested that Arsenal may be the front runners in the race for Ferguson’s signature next summer.

That’s according to a report from Football Transfers, which claims Ferguson is now “on the radar” of Arsenal ahead of the 2024 campaign. It is believed the Gunners want a player who can “compete” with Gabriel Jesus, amid fears over the Brazilian’s injury record.

Apparently, Spurs have been “put off” by Brighton’s valuation of the player, but still regard Ferguson as the “dream” signing for their own attacking needs.

In addition, it is said Manchester United “also have an interest” in Ferguson, but the Red Devils may have to wait until 2025 if they were to sign the player, due to “current issues” regarding investment from the club’s owners.

Spurs Web Opinion

We cannot let Arsenal sign Ferguson ahead of us. However, a lot of this will depend on how the Premier League table looks at the end of the season.

If Arsenal finish in the top four again, and Spurs finish outside the European qualification spots, then there will only be one winner in the race for the player.

Goal have claimed that Brighton are demanding a whopping £120m for Evan Ferguson amidst Tottenham’s interest in the striker.

Ferguson has been tipped by many to evolve into a world-class centre-forward in the years to come, with the teenager hardly appearing to have any weaknesses in his game.

The 18-year-old has started the new season impressively, and it was reported by TEAMtalk a few days ago that Spurs have explored a potential move for the youngster following Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich.

The outlet explained that it would be a ‘tough deal’ for Tottenham to pull off as the South Coast club have ‘little appetite’ for any approach for Fergusson.

The publication added that Spurs, nevertheless, are doing their ‘due diligence’ on various options to replace Kane, which is why they wanted to check on the Republic of Ireland international.

Brighton demand £120m for Evan Ferguson

Goal have now also reported on Tottenham’s interest in Ferguson, stating that the teenager is the North London club’s ‘dream’ Kane replacement.

However, it is explained that the Seagulls are keen to hold on to the centre-forward for one more season as they expect the player’s stock to go up even further over the next 12 months.

It is alleged that Brighton have informed Tottenham that they would have to set a new British transfer record by paying £120m for Ferguson if they want to sign him this window.

Spurs Web Opinion

Any hopes that Tottenham or any of the other Premier League clubs had of landing Ferguson this summer was over the second he penned a new contract with Brighton back in April. I would not be surprised if the striker fetches an even bigger fee than Moises Caicedo next summer.

TEAMtalk have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have enquired about the availability of Brighton striker Evan Ferguson, with the North London side said to have identified the youngster as a potential replacement for Harry Kane.

We relayed a report from The Athletic on Saturday, which claimed that Tottenham did enquire about Ferguson earlier in the summer but their pursuit of the striker ended when he signed a new five-year deal at the Amex Stadium.

However, if TEAMtalks’ latest assertion is to be believed, Spurs have not yet given up on their pursuit of the teenager.

It is alleged that following Kane’s departure to the Allianz Arena, the Lilywhites reached out to the Seagulls to check if they would be willing to part ways with Ferguson this summer.

Spurs have reached out about Evan Ferguson

The report states contact was made through intermediaries to explore the availability of the 18-year-old, who found the back of the net for Brighton in their win over Luton Town on Saturday.

However, TEAMtalk explain that it would be a ‘tough deal’ for Tottenham to pull off as the South Coast club have ‘little appetite’ for any approach for Fergusson.

The publication adds that Spurs, nevertheless, are doing their ‘due diligence’ on various options to replace Kane, which is why they wanted to check on the Republic of Ireland international.

Spurs Web Opinion

Brighton can be a hard club to negotiate with and any chance of prizing Ferguson away from the Amex Stadium ended back in April when the 18-year-old put pen to paper on a new contract.

Based on the various reports over the past 48 hours, it appears as if Spurs have now set their sights on Gent’s Gift Orban.

Brighton and Hove Albion fans won’t be happy with Gary Lineker right now, as the Match of the Day pundit has urged Tottenham Hotspur to look at Evan Ferguson as a replacement for Harry Kane.

After coming through the ranks at his boyhood club and becoming Tottenham’s all-time leading goalscorer (GOAL), Harry Kane finally called time on his Spurs career last week.

The 30-year-old had been linked with Bayern Munich all summer, and a move eventually came to fruition with Kane joining the German giants in a deal worth a reported £100m plus add-ons (Sky Sports).

With attacking talents like Heung-min Son, Richarlison, Dejan Kulusevski, Manor Solomon, and James Maddison, Spurs are not exactly lacking in the forward area despite losing Kane.

However, it is expected the Lilywhites will reinforce their front line at some point. Who they choose to replace Kane remains to be seen, with plenty of options mooted as possible candidates to fill those boots.

Evan Ferguson

Could Evan Ferguson be the next Harry Kane?

Tottenham have been linked to Brighton forward Evan Ferguson in the past (Sky Sports), and now, Gary Lineker has added fuel to that particular fire.

Ferguson scored for Brighton at the weekend, prompting Lineker to tweet: “Evan Ferguson scores in Fergie time. He’s a born goalscorer. If I was in charge of recruitment at Spurs I’d take a punt on him as Kane’s replacement. Apologies to Brighton fans.”

The 18-year-old scored ten goals for the Seagulls last season (Transfermarkt). He recently signed a new contract with Brighton that will run until 2028.

Spurs Web Opinion

Brighton just will not stop producing these top-quality players, and Ferguson will undoubtedly find himself at one of the bigger clubs in the league in the next couple of years.

Hopefully, that is Spurs. We should definitely be trying to sign him, as he has all the attributes one would want in a striker.

The Daily Mail have revealed that Ange Postecoglou is an admirer of Brighton winger Kaoru Mitoma.

Multiple publications have reported over the last few weeks that Tottenham are looking for reinforcements in the wide areas this summer following the exits of Lucas Moura and Arnaut Danjuma.

It has recently emerged Tottenham are now on the verge of snapping up Manor Solomon, with Fabrizio Romano reporting on Sunday that the club have reached a verbal agreement with the Israeli winger, who is now a free agent.

Postecoglou likes the look of Mitoma from Brighton

If The Mail’s latest update is to be believed, Postecoglou also has an eye on Mitoma who had an excellent first season in the Premier League, notching up ten goals and eight assists across the 2022-23 campaign (Transfermarkt).

It is revealed that the Spurs boss has followed the Japanese international closely from his time managing in the J-League but there is no suggestion in the report that a bid from the Lilywhites is imminent for the Brighton star.

Spurs Web Opinion

Mitoma has just two years left on his contract and there is no sign that at the moment that he is about to sign a new deal at the Amex Stadium.

So, Tottenham should perhaps test the waters with an offer of around £35m-£40m for the wide-man.

Daniel Levy joined Spurs as part of the ENIC consortium in December 2000. He was initially a board member, but after two years, he became the Chairman of the club.

In 2005, Levy appointed a special talent with an incredible vision for the future and a comprehensive understanding of economics. Before joining Spurs, Paul Barber had previously worked for the English Football Association (FA) and modernised its marketing and profit intake.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy with his hand on his face

Barber was made the first-ever marketing director for the FA, and throughout his time, he enhanced his skills in football economics. He also took on the role of managing where the FA Cup and Community Shield would be played while Wembley’s restoration was being constructed.

Barber was the perfect candidate for the role of Executive Director and was given the reins of the commercial operations of the club. This was a similar job to what he had at the FA, but on a more extensive basis (Tottenham Hotspur).

In 2005, Spurs were starting their return to challenging for European football, and they needed multiple streams of revenue to do this.

Spurs and Barber did just this, and in the 2006/7 season, Spurs had two new sponsors debut. Puma was to be the kit sponsor, and the gambling brand Mansion would be the primary shirt sponsor (Tottenham Hotspur).

Barber guaranteed Spurs some fantastic deals with multiple companies but his work may have flown under the radar in this role due to its limited impact on the football aspect of the club.

Nevertheless, Barber was technically savvy in his understanding of the game, and by 2009, he had outgrown his position. Barbers would then look for a new chapter in a higher-ranking position.

Paul Barber could be Daniel Levy’s biggest mistake

Barber’s next place of work was in Canada, where he was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Vancouver Whitecaps. At the time, the club was just starting out as a new franchise, and Barber was the perfect man to lead them into the future.

Using his skills in forming and closing deals that he obtained at Spurs and the FA he was able to secure a place for the White Caps in the MLS just two years after its formation.

Not only did Barber secure them divisional football, but he also oversaw their move to their renovated home, BC Place (Vancouver White Caps).

Barber resigned after two prosperous years in Vancouver, where he oversaw their establishment and helped craft their future. He then ventured back to Europe and arrived in Brighton in May 2012.

As the CEO, his presence created an instant impact, and Brighton finished fourth in the championship, this was a vast improvement on their 10th-place finish in the previous season.

Since then, Brighton have come on leaps and bounds, with improvement in almost every season since his arrival. Their pioneering transfer policy has transformed the club and pushed them into the limelight. When Barber joined Brighton, there was a shift in the way they did business.

Instead of signing big names or former stars, they looked into analytics to find the best young players for their system.

The ‘Money Ball’ system that Barber implemented worked flawlessly for Brighton, and slowly but surely they built a squad that challenged year after year in the championship. In 2017, Brighton gained promotion into the Premier League, and they haven’t looked back since.

Once promoted, Brighton struggled for the first three seasons, but the appointment of Graham Potter changed everything. Brighton rapidly started to climb the table, and in 2021/22, they broke into the top ten.

One of Barber’s many talents is planning ahead and adapting. In the summer of 2022, Brighton lost one of their brightest stars in Bissouma. This didn’t faze Barber or Brighton, as they brought in Moises Caicedo. What was meant to be a replacement turned out to be a full-fledged star who had offers upwards of £60 million in the transfer window (Fabrizio Romano).

Brighton also lost their manager in September and, once again, Barber had a replacement lined up, leading to Roberto De Zerbi being appointed.

De Zerbi has not only kept Brighton at a high level, but he has also improved them, playing even better, more attacking football than the season prior. Brighton had a stellar season and qualified for the Europa League for the first time in the club’s history.

There is no coincidence that Brighton’s spectacular rise from the Championship all the way to Europe came after Barber’s arrival.

The man has not only changed the way Brighton is run but also how other teams in Europe do their business. His work for the last 17 years has gone largely unnoticed, and he has finally received his flowers. In December 2022, he was awarded an OBE.

There is no doubt that Spurs made a harrowing mistake with the management of Barber, they had one of the best football brains at their disposal and let him walk away.

Nevertheless, Barber has gone on to do great things in the world of football, but the frustration that Spurs had this hidden gem and didn’t utilise him is frustrating, especially after the dynasty he has built at Brighton.
