The Guradian have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur will pay a small compensation to Shakhtar Donetsk for Manor Solomon.
Solomon became Tottenham’s third new signing for the summer transfer window, with the club confirming on Tuesday that the winger had signed a five-year deal in N17.
Although the Israeli international’s contract at Shakhtar was only due to run out in December, he signed for Spurs as a free agent because FIFA ruled in May that all foreign players based in Ukraine and Russia would be able to suspend their contracts again for a further year.
This did not sit well with Shakhtar Donetsk CEO Sergei Palkin, who warned at the start of June that he would take Tottenham to court if they signed Solomon on a free transfer as it would be unfair for the Ukrainian club to not get a fee for the 23-year-old (ESPN).

However, Palkin subsequently softened his stance, telling The Athletic last week that he hopes to agree a compensation ‘in good faith’ with the Lilywhites.
The Guardian have now stated that Tottenham will indeed pay compensation to Shakhtar for Solomon.
However, the publication adds that the bulk of the compensation will be paid by FIFA after they had ruled that players playing in Ukraine and Russia can temporarily suspend their contracts.

It is clear that Tottenham’s decision to arrange a pre-season friendly against Shakhtar was done as a means of compromise in order to ensure that the Ukrainian club do not get the North Londoners embroiled in an unnecessary legal battle over the Solomon deal.
