Manor Solomon has acknowledged that he will be competing with some world-class players, such as Son Heung-min, for a place in Tottenham’s starting eleven, but insisted that he will be ‘knocking on the door’ to get into the team.

Spurs fans got their first taste of Solomon in the pre-season friendly against West Ham United on Tuesday, with the 23-year-old getting the nod to start on the left in Son’s absence.

The winger impressed in his 45-minute outing, showing aggression and intensity both on and off the ball, and troubling the Hammers’ backline while cutting in on a few occasions.

Solomon insisted that Tottenham fans have not seen anything close to his best yet, and expressed his desire to learn and improve.

Speaking after the 3-2 loss to West Ham, the Israeli international told Football.London: “I hope to bring as much as possible to Tottenham, to try to create chances, to assist, to score goals.

“We created so many chances [against West Ham], but we didn’t exploit them the way we needed to. We will improve those things and I think we had a good performance.

“I always want to improve, to improve myself and to improve the team. That’s my goal. I am still young, so I still have big room to improve. I haven’t showed anything yet, I think.

“I will try to bring energy, I will try to bring speed, dribble for the team and to help as much as possible.”

Solomon is not scared of competition at Spurs

Solomon remarked that he is not fazed by the competition for places upfront at Spurs, stating that he is keen on giving his all to help the team.

When asked about potentially having to battle Son for a place in the starting eleven, he said: “Son is a great player, I don’t need to talk about him. He is a top player and when you arrive at a club like Spurs there is always a big competition for the position.

“I will be here and I will try to improve myself and to knock on the door every time to play as much as possible. Of course, my main position is on the left, but I can play on the right as well. When I am on the pitch, I will try to do the best I can to help the team.”

Solomon not only seems to have plenty of belief in his own ability but also appears to be hungry to improve. Even if he is not an automatic starter next season, he will be an extremely useful weapon for Postecoglou to bring on from the bench.
