With Fabrizio Romano breaking the news yesterday that Tottenham had agreed a deal with Sevilla to swap Erik Lamela and €25m for Bryan Gil, we wanted to take a closer look at the potential new Spurs man.

Who is he?

Bryan Gil is a 20-year-old wonderkid contracted to Sevilla who plays as a left-winger. He was born in Barcelona and joined the Sevilla youth academy in 2012 (Wikipedia).

Senior experience:

Six years later, in 2018, Gil was promoted to the reserves and made his senior debut for Sevilla B. He soon became a regular starter for them.

Gil made his first-team debut in 2019 and then went on to make ten more appearances in that season. However, all were as a substitute (TransferMarkt).

On 31 January 2020, Gil moved to Leganés on loan for the rest of the 19/20 season. He was then a part of another deal in the summer as he moved to Eibar on a season-long loan.

It was while playing for Eibar that Gil had a breakout season. He impressed massively with his trickery and dribbling skills, ensuring that everyone was now paying attention to the Spaniard.

Strengths:

Gil’s best strengths are his dribbling and creativity. His dribbling reminds me of Ndombele, being able to glide past players with ease.

In fact, Gil has even earned the nickname “Little Cruyff” due to his dribbling and technical ability and his playstyle is very pleasing on the eye.

Another positive to how Gil plays is that he draws a lot of fouls. He wins his team many dangerously positioned free kicks on the edge of the box.

He is capable of playing on either wing or as a central attacking midfielder. This is perfect because if there is an injury in any of those positions, he could replace them.

Should Spurs sign him?

Absolutely. For Erik Lamela and £21.6M, the deal seems to be a steal for Tottenham at this point in time (Sky In Italy).

For a player to have that much technical ability at the age of 20 is incredible. Spurs need to capitalise while he is still available to purchase.

Nuno will have to see how he plays to decide whether he should surpass Steven Bergwijn straight away and become the second choice left-winger.

But Tottenham should try him on the right-wing as he is left-footed so could easily adapt his play to suit the right.

He may not be capable of starting at the moment, however, he is a player for the future, which is what Spurs need.

And for that reason, without a doubt, I believe that the Lilywhites should sign him.
