The print edition of Corriere dello Sport (19/07/23 as relayed by Sport Witness) have claimed that Lazio would not be able to meet Tottenham’s asking price for Bryan Gil, which is why the Serie A club can only sign the winger on loan this summer.
Gil is not part of the 31-man Spurs squad that has travelled to Australia and Asia for pre-season, with the Spaniard missing out on the tour due to a back injury.
Alasdair Gold revealed via Football.London last month that the 22-year-old ‘ticks a lot of boxes’ for Ange Postecoglou, who feels that the Spaniard has the attributes to thrive in his system.
However, the Australian will have to wait for a chance to work with Gil, and in the meantime, it appears as if Lazio are continuing their efforts to snap up the player.
Lazio cannot afford a permanent deal for Bryan Gil
Corriere have now claimed that Maurizio Sarri wants to add another winger to his squad this summer and that the Tottenham man is ‘very much liked’ by the Italian coach.
However, it is explained that Gil would cost a ‘fortune’ as Tottenham have made it clear that they would only sell him permanently for €25m (£21.7m).
The report adds that the Serie A side could only sign the Spain international on loan at the moment, which is not want they want.

It is a shame that Gil’s injury has prevented him from showing Postecoglou just what he can offer.
While the Australian might be prepared to give the winger a chance to prove himself, the question is whether the 23-year-old would want to stay and fight for his place in the side.
