Sevilla are thought to be keen to reunite with Bryan Gil once more this season, but may have to wait until late in the transfer window to acquire the Tottenham Hotspur winger.
Spurs originally signed Bryan Gil from Sevilla back in 2021. The Lilywhites paid £21.6m for the youngster, and also sent Erik Lamela to Spain as part of the deal (Sky Sports).
Things have not quite gone to plan for Gil during his time in North London, however, with the Spaniard being restricted to watching his team from the bench and making cameo appearances late on in games.
Over the last two years, Gil has also spent time back in Spain for loan spells with Valencia, and his former club Sevilla.
It is believed that Gil ‘ticks a lot of boxes’ in terms of what new Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou looks for in attackers (Football.London). However, the 22-year-old has been unable to show his coach what he can do due to a back injury.
Sevilla want Gil, but he wants to impress at Spurs
According to a new report from ABC Sevilla (via Sport Witness), Sevilla are hopeful they can bring Bryan Gil back to La Liga, but the player intends to impress his new manager at Spurs.
Apparently, we should watch closely in the “final stretch of the transfer window” when a deal could be achieved for Gil. The report claims Sevilla have a “lack of talent” in attacking areas and see their former player as the answer to that problem.
It is said that Gil wants to “convince” Ange Postecoglou that he can be valuable to Tottenham in the new regime but finding game time for the young winger will be “difficult.”
With this in mind, the “solution” may come at the end of the summer for Gil in the form of a move back to Sevilla.
The matter is of course complicated by Gil’s injury issues right now, with Tottenham Hotspur revealing the player is set for surgery that will keep him out of action for the next two months.
Regardless, Spurs and Sevilla were “yet to agree a loan deal” and it is believed the North London side would be “keen to get the maximum return” for Gil if they did let him go.
Spurs Web Opinion
Bryan Gil is unlikely to be going anywhere now this summer, and Sevilla will have to look elsewhere for reinforcements to their squad. Hopefully, he can recover from this injury and get some opportunities with Spurs soon.
