According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, Antonio Conte has emerged as one of the leading contenders to take over as Napoli’s head coach this summer.

The report reveals that despite leading Napoli to the Scudetto, Luciano Spalletti is expected to part ways with the club at the end of the season.

It is alleged that Spalletti is not even on speaking terms with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who has now identified Antonio Conte and Luis Enrique as potential replacements for the 64-year-old.

The report states that despite Conte’s unceremonious exit from Tottenham back in March, his stock remains high in Italy.

Gazzetta claim that De Laurentiis has already held talks with the 53-year-old in the past about joining the club and that the recently departed Spurs head coach is interested in the role.

However, it is explained that Napoli might find it hard to meet Conte’s salary demands, with the club reluctant to pay him more than £6m per year, compared to the £13m he was earning at Spurs.

Spurs Web Opinion

I have no doubt that Conte will have offers this summer despite the way things ended for him at Spurs.

The Italian might take the Napoli job despite the salary cut as it is a great opportunity for him to win add another Serie A title to his cabinet and get his career back on track.
