Tottenham Hotspur announced the injury of Lucas Moura this morning, ahead of their crucial first leg tie against Chelsea in the League Cup semi-final tomorrow night.
Spurs would have been unlikely to start Lucas in this game, such is the sublime form of Heung Min Son at the moment, but he surely would have been used off the bench to make an impact.
However, the Chelsea game is largely irrelevant in the bigger picture of this injury, as Moura would be Poch’s go to replacement for Sonny if the South Korean were to mysteriously disappear.
Oh wait, Son is actually scheduled to leave for international duty after the Man United game on Sunday, meaning Spurs could be without both him and Moura beyond this match.
Spurs say they will assess the Brazilian winger ahead of the Man United game, a team he banged a brace against earlier in the season.
Getting Lucas fit and fighting by the time Son leaves will be a must for Tottenham if they hope to keep up their good form.
Erik Lamela could be used as a replacement, but he lacks the same style of direct running and sheer pace that Son and Lucas possess.
Get well soon, Moura!
