Tottenham forward Son Heung-Min is currently on international duty with South Korea who are competing at the 2018 Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates. Harry Kane’s ankle injury has made Son’s unavailability even worse since Tottenham are short of options up front, with Fernando Llorente being their only other out and out striker.
Unfortunately for Tottenham, it looks like Son might be away with South Korea for a while as the Korea Republic look like they are likely to go all the way. They are the only team in the tournament to have taken full 9 points in the group stage, and have so far done better than the other big sides like Japan, Australia, and Iran.
Son started today for the Korea Republic as they dispatched China 2-0, to win the group quite comfortably. Son was quick to make his presence felt in the tournament as it was his in-swinging corner which was met by a thumping header from Min-Jae Kim to put Korea 2-0 up.
This is a massive tournament for the Korea Republic as they haven’t won the Asia Cup for 59 years, and on the evidence of how they are playing so far, they might just go all the way this time around.
If the Korea Republic reach the finals, then Son will not be back in action for Spurs until they take on Leicester at home on the 10th of February.
