Tottenham won courtesy of a goal in the final 10 minutes for the third consecutive Premier League game in a row today.
Mauricio Pochettino opted to bench Fernando Llorente and start with a front 4 of Son Heung-Min, Lucas Moura, Erik Lamela, and Christian Eriksen.
Newcastle came into the game high on confidence, after registering back to back wins including a victory over reigning champions Manchester City in midweek.
While Spurs looked to be in control of the game right from kick-off, they found it hard to create chances. Newcastle put up a typically sturdy defensive performance as they refused to give the Spurs players any space in the final third.
Despite this Spurs were unlucky not to go ahead in the game with Moura missing a great chance, Lamela hitting the post and Eriksen seeing his effort cleared off the line.
However, the home side kept pushing and eventually got their reward as a knockdown from Llorente who came on as a substitute, found Son Heung-Min who’s shot bounced just in front of Martin Dúbravka and found the back of the net.
Here’s how some Spurs fans reacted to the result which took Tottenham to second in the table ahead of Manchester City:
