Tottenham Hotspur became the first Premier League club ever to not buy a single new signing in the summer transfer window this year.

Pochettino and Levy instead opted for a settled squad of proven players, and so far, it is proving to be a wise decision.

Spurs are enjoying their best ever start to a Premier League season, and currently sit in third after 17 games played.

However, the Tottenham squad is set to get a little lighter in the new year, as star winger Heung Min Son faces another spell away with his native South Korea.

Sonny will miss the opening two games of South Korea’s Asia Cup campaign in 2019, but will then join up late with the squad.

This means he will miss the Manchester United game on January 13, as well as the semi-final second leg against Chelsea later that month.

Pochettino was asked whether Spurs would be bringing a new face in to plug this gap.

He said (Football London): “I need to tell you that we knew from the beginning of the season that it would happen. But that doesn’t mean it’s going to change our minds.”
