Football.London have revealed that Tottenham would stand to earn €15.6m (£13.7m) if they qualify for the Champions League as opposed to just €3.6m (£3.2m) if they enter the Europa League.

Spurs are currently outsiders in the race for a top-four finish, with Newcastle United and Manchester United both sitting three points above the Lilywhites with games in hand.

However, despite the woeful defeat to Bournemouth, Tottenham are far from out of it, particularly since they have to face both the Magpies and the Red Devils over the coming weeks.

Football.London have now explained the big financial difference that finishing fourth would make for the three clubs compared to finishing one place lower.

The report explains that just qualifying for the group stage of the Champions League will see clubs earn a base payment of £13.7m, which is £10.5m more than what they would receive in the Europa League.

In addition, each win in the Champions League involves prize money of €2.8m (£2.5m) and a draw brings in €930k (£819k) while the comparative figures in the Europa League are just €630k (£555k) and a draw €210k (£185k) respectively.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is quite likely that us, Newcastle and Man Utd will be going after some of the same players this summer.

So, even putting aside the financial benefits of finishing in the top four, it is vital that we have Champions League football to offer in order to give ourselves the best chance of winning the race for our summer targets.
