CalcioMercato have claimed that Ruslan Malinovskyi is inching closer to a switch to Tottenham Hotspur in January.

Since Spurs’ failed pursuit of Malinovskyi in the summer, the rumours linking the attacking midfielder to the North London club have continued to persist (Sport Mediaset).

The speculation has intensified over recent weeks as we move closer to the January transfer window, with some reports over recent days suggesting that the Lilywhites could face competition from West Ham United and Marseille for the 29-year-old (Ignazio Genuardi).

CalcioMercato have now claimed on the back of Malinovskyi’s poor showing in the friendly against Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday that it is becoming ‘increasingly difficult’ for Atalanta to recoup the transfer fee they paid for the Ukrainian.

The report adds that Gian Piero Gasperini’s side were initially hoping to get around €18m (£15.4m) for the attacking midfielder in January but they might now have to settle for around €15m (£12.9m).

CalcioMercato also assert that Malinovskyi is moving ‘increasingly distant’ from Marseille and ‘increasingly close’ to Tottenham.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am not convinced that Tottenham will get involved in a bidding war for Malinovskyi, and I see the North London club walking away if the midfielder costs £15m or above, given his contract situation. If Conte was that desperate for the Ukrainian, Spurs would have likely pushed through a deal in the summer.
