Italian journalist Salvatore Biazzo has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are one of several Premier League clubs involved in a ‘merciless fight’ to sign Napoli superstar Victor Osimhen.
Tottenham did not sign a centre-forward to replace Harry Kane in the summer, and there has been plenty of speculation over recent weeks suggesting that the Lilywhites could secure a number nine in January.
Reports in the British press have suggested this month that Spurs are set to battle London rivals, Arsenal and Chelsea, for Brentford striker Ivan Toney (Daily Express).
It has also been reported over the last couple of weeks that Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez (90 min) and Lille’s Jonathan David (TEAMtalk) are on the Lilywhites’ radar.
Could Osimhen be Tottenham’s new Harry Kane?
At the start of this month, Fichajes sensationally claimed that Tottenham are also exploring a €120m (£103.8m) deal for Osimhen, whose relationship with Napoli had gone sour.
Biazzo has now backed up this claim, stating that Spurs, Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool are set for a battle for the Nigerian’s signature.
The journalist told Kiss Kiss Napoli (as relayed by Siomo Il Napoli): “We need to understand how Osimhen is psychologically after these family events. Now they also have to deal with the injury. De Laurentiis will want to follow his little gem closely because there are various problems around.
“Liverpool? In the Premier League, there is a merciless fight between different teams, with Arsenal, City and Tottenham.
“Liverpool are a historic team and could want a striker like Osimhen, but I see the financial exposure of English clubs and Liverpool are placed high in the ranking of those who have debts.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Tottenham may have to almost double their current transfer record in order to sign Osimhen. That is certainly not the club’s business model.
We will likely scour the market for strikers in the £30m-£60m range and it remains to be seen if a number nine is even a priority for the club in January.
