Journalist Paul Brown expects Son Heung-min to put pen to paper on a new contract with Tottenham if and when he is offered a new deal.
Following Harry Kane’s departure, Son is not only the face of Spurs and the leader of the dressing room but he is also arguably the club’s most important player.
The 31-year-old, who netted a hat-trick in Tottenham’s 5-2 win over Burnley, will be hoping to prove a point this season now that he is out of Kane’s shadow and would potentially be eyeing similar returns to the 2021-22 campaign, which he finished as the Golden Boot winner.
Son’s current deal runs until 2025 and Spurs will want to avoid a similar situation with the South Korean to the one they faced with the England captain this summer after he was down to the final year of his contract.
Alasdair Gold said on his YouTube channel a couple of days ago that he would be stunned if the Lilywhites do not offer the forward a new contract soon, but he added that it remains to be seen if the player would be open to signing it.
New contract could be on the way for Sonny
Brown believes that Son would be ready to commit himself to Tottenham, given how happy he is in N17.
The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I think Son is more than happy at Spurs. He was made the captain, and he’s really taken that to heart. I think he’s incredibly well-respected around the club, not just in the dressing room but amongst the hierarchy and in the wider fan base.
“I think he knows that he’s the main man there at the moment, and I don’t see any reason why he would walk away from that. Spurs love him. He knows that, and I suspect he’ll sign a new contract, and I think he’ll be there for some time yet.”
Spurs Web Opinion
One can tell from Son’s body language that he is very much enjoying being the main man at Tottenham and being tasked with the responsibility of being the side’s main goalscorer.
That was also apparent whenever Kane was out injured, with the South Korean thriving during the club’s run to the Champions League final in 2019.
