Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy will remain the highest-paid director in the Premier League in the 2023/24 season, with a payout of at least £3 million heading his way this year.
Levy is the longest-serving chairman in the Premier League right now, having taken on his role at Tottenham in 2001.
During his time in North London there have been plenty of ups and downs for Levy. Over the last couple of years, Spurs fans have become increasingly frustrated with Levy’s running of the club and the ENIC ownership in general.
In the 2022/23 campaign, there was ongoing unrest among the Tottenham supporters and regular reports of ‘Levy out’ chants from the stands (Football.London).
The volume of angry Spurs fans reached such a severe level last season that Levy even had to change his email address due to the number of complaints he was receiving from fans (Daily Mail).
Suffice to say, Spurs fans are not best pleased with Levy, but the 61-year-old was the highest-earning director in the Premier League last season, with a payment of £3.26m over the year (Daily Mail).
Levy will remain the top earner this season
According to information from Football Insider, Levy will retain that crown as the top earner for the upcoming season.
Apparently, Levy will continue to receive an annual salary of “north of £3m per season” heading into the new campaign.
The report notes how “income has soared” under Levy’s leadership at Spurs, and details his involvement in “helping to organise and finance” Tottenham’s new stadium.
However, it remains to be seen whether Manchester United‘s new director, John Murtough could surpass Levy’s salary. The Manchester club are yet to reveal Murtough’s earnings for the upcoming season.
Spurs Web Opinion
It’s hard to criticise Levy from a business point of view, as he has transformed Tottenham into a commercial juggernaut. However, his involvement in the football side of things leaves a lot to be desired.
