Contrary to what we have heard from other outlets over the past few days, journalist Graeme Bailey has now suggested that Daniel Levy will hold on to Harry Kane even if the striker does not sign a new deal this summer.

Earlier this week, Charlie Eccleshare wrote a comprehensive article in The Athletic explaining what he described as a game of ‘poker’ between Tottenham, Bayern Munich and Kane.

He stated that the feeling in the industry is that Spurs will not risk the possibility of losing the 29-year-old on a free transfer and would thus look to sell the player to Bayern for a hefty price if he does not sign a new contract this summer.

The Independent subsequently claimed on Wednesday that Bayern believe they have everything in place to get the deal over the line, barring a final agreement with Levy.

Levy is keeping his foot down on Harry Kane exit

However, Bailey has now asserted that the Tottenham chairman’s stance on the star striker has not changed from the start and that he will take the risk of allowing him to run into the final year of his deal unless an offer of around £120m arrives this summer.

The journalist said on the Talking Transfers Podcast: “The stance hasn’t changed for Tottenham, they’re gambling, they’re going to keep him. Levy is going to keep him to try to sign this new deal.

“Kane is quite happy to wait until January, speaking to people behind the scenes, there isn’t a price tag on this, but I get the impression that if someone comes in for £120m that would persuade Levy to do it.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs fans who want us to take a gamble by allowing Kane to run into the final year of his deal, are thinking emotionally rather than rationally.

It is clear that the striker is not going to sign a new contract unless Postecoglou performs a miracle and gets us to compete for the Premier League title next season.

I certainly do not think Levy is naive enough to think that the striker would change his mind about a new deal mid-way into next season.

The sensible thing for the club to do is to cash in on the striker and give the funds to Postecoglou to rebuild the squad.
