Tottenham Hotspur could turn to Leeds United star Wilfried Gnonto as they look to add pace and productivity to their forward line in the wake of Harry Kane’s departure.
After months of speculation, Harry Kane finally sealed his move to Bayern Munich last weekend in a deal reportedly worth around £100m (Sky Sports).
While Tottenham’s attack still boasts the likes of Heung-min Son, Richarlison, Dejan Kulusevski, and James Maddison, the Lilywhites are sure to miss their talismanic striker.
Brazilian forward, Richarlison, was tasked with leading the line against Brentford for Tottenham’s Premier League opener on Sunday but failed to make much of an impact.
With money in the bank, Spurs are largely expected to try and acquire a new striker before the end of the transfer window.
As things stand, the most likely target appears to be Gift Orban, with Tottenham reportedly ready to push ahead with a move for the Nigerian striker soon (CaughtOffside).
Spurs enter race for Wilfried Gnonto from Leeds
Now, a report from LondonWorld claims Spurs are also “looking at” Wilfried Gnonto, but will face competition from Everton for the Leeds United starlet.
Apparently, the North London club are keen to find a player who can “provide pace, assists and goals” and view Gnonto as a potential option to add to their attacking roster.
According to the report, Leeds will “only entertain offers in the region of £20m” for the 19-year-old. As things stand, Everton are regarded as the front runners but it is thought Spurs “could make a bid” in the near future.
The player himself is reportedly keen to leave Leeds since their relegation to the Championship and it is believed agreeing personal terms with the young Italian would be a “mere formality” should Spurs opt to move in for him.
Spurs Web Opinion
Gnonto arrived in the Premier League last season and looked like a real talent. He definitely deserves to be in the top flight, but I’m just not sure he is the right kind of player we are looking for right now as he is more of a wide attacker and we need someone who can operate more centrally.
