Tottenham have made Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster their main target to become understudy to Hugo Lloris next season, according to The Athletic.
Spurs are likely to pursue bringing in another ‘keeper this summer with current number two option Pierluigi Gollini expected to return to parent club Atalanta when his loan ends (TuttoMercatoWeb).
Forster’s contract with Southampton is due to expire this summer (Transfermarkt) and the Saints are said to be resigned to losing the veteran stopper with Spurs primed to land the England international as a free agent.
The Athletic claims Antonio Conte’s side have made the 34-year-old their ideal candidate to support club captain Lloris next term and will push to complete a move when the season comes to a close.
The report adds Forster has already said his goodbyes to his Saints colleagues and was not part of their match day squad for yesterday’s 4-1 defeat to Leicester City.
Forster has made 134 appearances for Southampton since 2014 and has earned six caps for England, with his last coming in 2016 (Transfermarkt).

This is a bit of a change of direction from Spurs considering Johnstone is the better option out on the market, but either way they are addressing the back-up goalkeeper situation.
He is much older and has been playing in the Premier League for a while which is a good sign so he could be a very decent player to bring in for the cup games to give Lloris a bit of a rest.
The move is likely to bring an end to Tottenham’s chase for West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone after it was reported the north London side were one of five Premier League clubs in the hunt (The Sun).
