Alasdair Gold has predicted that Fraser Forster’s first start for Tottenham Hotspur might be just around the corner.

Forster was the second of seven signings that Spurs made during the summer transfer window, with the experienced goalkeeper joining the club on a free transfer after his contract with Southampton ran out.

The 34-year-old, who was signed as Hugo Lloris’ understudy, is yet to make his debut for the Lilywhites but seems to have already settled in well at Tottenham.

Fabio Paratici told Spurs TV last month that the England international has been very helpful to his teammates since arriving at the club.

Forster seemed to be in line to potentially make his Spurs debut in the North London derby last Saturday after Lloris had withdrawn from the France squad during the international break due to an injury.

However, the Spurs skipper recovered in time to retain his place in the starting eleven at the Emirates.

Gold has now revealed that he noticed Forster was training as if he was starting at the Deutsche Bank Park against Frankfurt on Tuesday.

The journalist said on his YouTube channel: “One thing that I also thought was quite interesting, Fraser Forster, after everyone had gone in, I haven’t seen this before, he stayed in the net and had a proper session in there as if he was starting the game.

“I may be reading too much into this but maybe they were putting him in there in the noise to get him in the headspace of a big match because maybe he’s going to start a game soon.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It could well have been about getting Forster in the right head space if he is called upon for a big Premier League or Champions League match later in the season. However, I do not see the former Saints man getting a start unless Lloris is injured, at least until we begin our Carabao Cup campaign.
