Former Tottenham goalkeeper, Paul Robinson, has insisted that Daniel Levy loves the club and there is nothing the chairman would like to see more than success on the pitch.
Saying that Levy is a divisive figure among the Spurs fanbase is a fair comment, although the club has grown considerably since ENIC bought the majority shares back in 2001.
While Spurs might have not won much silverware in the last two decades, they have come a long way as a club both on and off the pitch. A new stadium, new training ground, consistent European football, and a Champions League final reinforce that idea.
Robinson believes that it is harsh to accuse Spurs and Levy of not spending enough money, while insisting that the chairman is desperate to see the Lilywhites win trophies.
Speaking to Football Insider, the former England stopper said: “Daniel is fantastic. The way that he has run the club over the years – the financial footing, building arguably the best stadium in the world and the best training facility in the world without a doubt – it is incredible. His attention to detail, the care and the love he has for the club is evident.
“He gets a lot of criticism for not putting his hand in his pocket but he does. If there is a better way of doing it then he will do it that way. He is a very well respected businessman.
“You can see what he has done for that club over the years. They are on a fantastic footing and all credit to him. They now just need to get it right on the pitch. He loves the club and he would want nothing more than it to go right on the pitch.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I can see why some fans are frustrated with Levy as a little more investment at some crucial junctions over the last few years might have seen us pick up a league title. However, there is no doubt that ENIC and Levy have been a complete net positive for Spurs.
We weren’t in a much better position than the likes of Everton, Aston Villa, and West Ham on and off the pitch when Levy took over as Spurs chairman. If anyone had said back then that we would see Spurs overtake the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal in terms of revenue, most would have laughed but that is exactly what Levy has managed to achieve. He has set the club up for sustained future success.
