Fabrizio Romano has said Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Xavi Simons, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham, is nearing a loan switch to RB Leipzig.
It was reported by Gianluca Di Marzio a few days ago that PSG were willing to offer Simons to Tottenham as part of a deal to take Harry Kane to Paris.
The 20-year-old attacking midfielder left the French club to join PSV Eindhoven last summer and had an excellent first season in Dutch football, scoring 22 times and providing 12 assists across all competitions (Transfermarkt).
The Ligue 1 giants then exercised the option to buy back the Netherlands international for £5m and were allegedly willing to sell him to Spurs as part of the Kane operation.
Xavi Simons to RB Leipzig gets the ‘here we go’
However, that now appears to be dead in the water, with Romano taking to social media to confirm that Simons is set to move to the Red Bull Arena on loan.
The journalist explained that the deal is almost complete and that Leipzig will not have the option to sign the youngster permanently.

Medical within next 24 hours then time to sign the contract.
NO buy option clause, as always said — back to PSG next summer.

This might perhaps indicate that PSG have admitted defeat in their pursuit of Kane, with the striker seemingly having his heart set on joining Bayern Munich following his conversation with Thomas Tuchel.
