Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed they will be trialling the inclusion of a drummer at the stadium next season in a bid to improve the match day atmosphere.

In an email to supporters, the club revealed that 64% of supporters surveyed who are situated in the south stand have backed the idea which will see the drummer act as a catalyst for those who want to sing.

The club also reassured those who were not in favour that the drumming would not be a constant throughout the match as witnessed in leagues on the continent such as the Bundesliga and instead, will drum intermittently.

Tottenham previously had allowed a drum to be used at White Hart Lan with ‘Dan the Drum’ having helped to create the atmosphere at the old ground, only for it to be stopped.

While Hart Lane was being demolished, Tottenham temporarily relocated to Wembley and after just one match at the national stadium, the club scrapped their plan to play drum noises over the PA system in an effort to help create an atmosphere inside the ground following negative feedback (The Times).

While the return of the drum is a welcome addition to help try to improve the atmosphere, the bigger issue is that many of the club’s supporters are being priced out of attending matches in N17 due to the astronomical ticket hike which has been imposed.

This decision needs to be reversed, and maybe, many of those who created the atmosphere at WHL will again be able to cheer on their side in person.
