After planning permission was granted to build new homes and commercial properties around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the club has attempted to oppose this development, but its case has been dismissed.

The plan to make the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium one of the most impressive venues in world football was a successful one. The 62,850-seater stadium boasts state-of-the-art facilities that most clubs would be envious of.

Daniel Levy has helped to maximise the club’s revenue by turning the stadium into a multi-functioning venue for other sporting and music events. The ground has also been chosen to be part of the Euro 2028 hosting roster for the UK and Ireland.

While results and performances on the pitch are living up to that incredible setting right now, it seems Spurs have a wider problem they’re struggling to deal with right now, as a development around the ground may make things difficult.

Tottenham Hotspur have legal case dismissed

In a report from the BBC, it is revealed that the club has attempted to push back against plans to build “almost 3000 homes and commercial development on land near High Road.” However, the legal case has been thrown out and the plans for the development look set to go ahead.

Haringey Council’s decision was met with opposition by Tottenham Hotspur, who fear there will be “heritage impact” and that the new buildings could lead to “crowd control issues.”

Local Authority officers insist the plans will lead to a “significant contribution to the regeneration of the area,” with more jobs, improved travel, and economic benefits.

However, local residents and business owners have also raised concerns over the fact that existing buildings will be demolished to make way for the new properties.

It is said that crowd control measures will be assessed and rectified where necessary once the development is complete, and Mr Justice Saini has ruled that the case for opposition does not outweigh the “substantial public benefits” the plans will offer.

Spurs Web Opinion

It sounds like these developments haven’t really taken everything into account, least of all safety and the feelings of the residents in the area, but are being given the green light regardless, because of the money they will generate.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was vandalised this week during the international break, but there are no indications that it was motivated by anti-semitism amidst the Israel-Palestine conflict.

The Daily Mail report that Tottenham’s home ground was targeted on Monday and one individual has been arrested for damages caused to the building. It is said that these damages will run into ‘at least’ six figures on the £1.2 billion stadium.

Spurs host Fulham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after the international break and it is unclear how long it will take for repairs to be made, or what parts of the stadium were damaged.

Ange Postecoglou has made his new home somewhat of a fortress since taking over as Spurs manager, just as he did during his time with Celtic and Yokohama. Tottenham are unbeaten at home (and away) in the Premier League so far this season.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium hit with vandalism

A Tottenham statement read: ‘We can confirm that an individual was arrested for criminal damage following an incident that took place on Monday night.

‘There is no indication that this incident is linked to anti-semitism.’

Spurs Web Opinion:

Why on Earth people do this kind of thing is beyond me. If you are compelled to damage the property of a rival club, then you have an unhealthy relationship with football and need to seek to resolve that.

The UK and Ireland have been successful in their bid to host Euro 2028, and with the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium forming part of that bid, Daniel Levy has been celebrating the good news.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is rightly regarded as one of the very best sporting venues in the world right now. Since opening its doors in 2019, the stadium has not only been the home to Tottenham’s football team, but has also hosted NFL and boxing matches, and even music events.

With a capacity of 62,850 and its state of the arts facilities, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was always likely to be included in the UK and Ireland’s bid to host Euro 2028. Along with Wembley Stadium, the Spurs ground is one of two London venues included in the proposal.

There was a concern, at one point, that Spurs may have to pull out of the bid, however. UEFA restrictions prohibit any stadium with a branded name from being involved in major international tournaments (The Times).

Tottenham have been looking for a sponsor for their stadium for some time now, but Daniel Levy did admit recently that this is no longer as much of a priority (Bloomberg).

Levy is proud to be hosting Euro 2028

With news that the UK and Ireland’s bid to host Euro 2028 has been given the green light, Levy has been speaking to the club’s social media about the success.

He said: “When we designed this stadium, we had the idea that this would be a multi-use stadium. We’re very proud that UEFA has decided this stadium is fit to host Euro 2028… It’s international recognition for the stadium.”

Spurs legend, Ledley King, added: “The European Championships are a big deal… Being the host nation in 1996 had a big impact on me as a kid, and the rest of the country. The Euros will always play a huge part.”

Peray Ahmet, the leader of Haringey Council, reckons this will “put Tottenham on the map” and is excited for “the whole world” to be watching.

And, Tottenham defender, Micky van de Ven has spoken on the decision, too, adding: “When the Euros are in your country, you feel it a bit more. For the kids, it will be a huge thing… it feels like home.”

Spurs Web Opinion

This is a huge success for Tottenham and it will be a fantastic occasion when the tournament rolls around. It is an interesting one, too, in terms of the naming rights for the stadium, which you would assume is an issue that will be put on hold until after the Euros now.

Dele Alli has been back at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last weekend, albeit for a different kind of football. The former Spurs man was in attendance for the NFL game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Buffalo Bills.

It was not so long ago that Dele Alli was lighting up the pitch himself in North London. The midfielder was one of the key stars of the Mauricio Pochettino era at Tottenham and went on to amass 269 appearances for the Lilywhites, scoring 67 goals and registering 61 assists (Transfermarkt).

In the last couple of years, however, Dele has lost his status as a star player for club and country, after suffering from injuries and mental health issues. The 27-year-old discussed the latter in an appearance on The Overlap earlier this year.

While he is currently on the sidelines with an injury, the Everton player has been doing the rounds this weekend and visited two very different football games.

Dele spotted at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

After attending Everton’s 3-0 win against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon and posing for photographs with the Toffees’ supporters at Goodison Park, Dele opted for a different sport altogether on Sunday.

Dele was spotted at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium yesterday as the venue played host to the NFL clash between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Buffalo Bills. He shared a post to Instagram showing a very familiar view from the stands at his former stomping ground.

It is not the first time Dele has visited the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season, either. He was previously in attendance as Spurs defeated Manchester United back in August.

At the time, Tottenham captain Heung-min Son told the Independent how Dele was still a ‘member of the family’ at Spurs.

Spurs Web Opinion

Dele is looking in good shape, and most importantly, he is smiling, which is fantastic. It’s nice to see him attending games, but it will be even better to see him playing again. Hopefully, he can get on the pitch soon.

Football.London have revealed that the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will be one of the venues to host matches as the UK and Ireland are set to be named as hosts for Euro 2028.

Next summer’s European championship will take place in Germany but the hosts of the 2028 tournament are yet to be officially confirmed.

However, Football.London have now reported that the joint bid from the UK and Ireland is expected to be announced as the winning one by UEFA on October 10 after Turkey withdrew their bid to host the tournament.

Tottenham selected as a premier London venue

The outlet explains that two London venues have been included in the bid – the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Wembley.

The other English grounds that will host games during the tournament are Villa Park, St. James’ Park, Etihad Stadium and Everton’s new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

In addition, matches will be held at Glasgow’s Hampden Park, Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, Dublin’s Aviva Stadium and Belfast’s Casement Park.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is certainly not surprising that the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been chosen ahead of the London Stadium, The Emirates and Stamford Bridge as it has undoubtedly emerged as the best sporting venue in the capital since its opening.

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire has said that Tottenham are in a great position to monetise tourists at their stadium after it emerged that the club have extended their agreement with the NFL.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was constructed with the idea of hosting NFL games, other sporting events, and concerts, with the venue having an artificial surface for those events underneath a retractable football pitch.

It was announced on 14 September that Tottenham and the NFL have agreed to extend their deal to host matches at the stadium until 2029-2030.

That means that Two NFL games per season will continue to be played at Spurs’ home ground, with this year’s games set to be played later this month.

Jacksonville Jaguars taking on the Buffalo Bills on October 8 and the Baltimore Ravens taking on the Tennessee Titans on October 15.

As part of the announcement, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell even labelled the 62,850-seater stadium as the ‘Home of the NFL in the UK’.

Maguire has said that Spurs designed the stadium to be able to monetise the tourists and NFL fans through merchandise sales at the venue.

Daniel Levy has a masterplan for Spurs finances

He told Football Insider about the extension to the agreement: “I think this is part of Daniel Levy’s overall masterplan.

“The football club is clearly the preeminent element of the new stadium, but at the same time, the plan is to monetise it so that it can become a significant revenue earner on non-match days.

“This NFL deal would appear to be part of that approach. The stadium is excellent in terms of merchandise sales – it’s geared to extract money from people’s pockets.

“And with a large number of NFL fans and tourist fans coming to London, I think it’s very well-placed in that particular regard.

“So you’ve got to give the club credit, and also it gives certainty going forward until 2030. That certainty can only help in terms of being able to set realistic budgets, attract more talent to the football team with the ultimate aim of of winning trophies.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Levy has come under a lot of criticism for Spurs’ inability to get over the line and win trophies. A lot of that criticism is justified as he is ultimately responsible for the decisions that are made, including the managerial appointments.

However, one thing that even his fierce critics have to accept is that he has hit the ball out of the park when it comes to managing the financial side of the club.

He is almost single-handedly responsible for the fact that we have achieved near parity with the biggest clubs in Europe regarding revenue generation.

The stadium potentially has the capacity to further boost our coffers if its revenue-earning potential is maximised, thus setting us up to compete with the best for decades to come, irrespective of whether the owner pumps money into the club.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium may keep its current name for the foreseeable future, as Daniel Levy has suggested the club is not as keen to find a naming rights sponsor as they previously were.

The state-of-the-art venue opened its doors in 2019 and has been known as the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ever since.

With a 62,850 capacity, top-of-the-range facilities, and the ability to host various other events from the NFL to music concerts, the stadium is regarded as one of the very best in the world.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has long been hunting for a brand to sponsor the stadium and take over the naming rights in what could be a huge commercial deal for the club.

Partnering with a global brand and changing the name of the stadium would have its drawbacks, however. One such pitfall would be the fact that Tottenham would not be able to be part of the Euro 2028 bid, due to UEFA restrictions on stadiums with branded names (The Times).

Does the Tottenham Stadium need a sponsor?

Both Levy and chief commercial officer Todd Kline recently spoke about how complicated the process is in finding the right partner. Levy even hinted that the recognition of the club’s own name may be more valuable than a lucrative sponsorship deal (Football.London).

Now, Levy has gone one step further and heavily suggested the club does not regard finding that deal as such a pressing matter anymore.

He told Bloomberg: “If we get the right naming rights partner — and when I say that, I mean somebody who pays the right money in the right sector — then we are willing to consider doing it.

“But we’re not as tied to doing it now as perhaps we would’ve been when we first looked at building the stadium.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I had a feeling this might be the way Levy goes with the stadium. It has to be the right deal, and if that still hasn’t been found after all these years, then perhaps the best thing to do is retain the club’s identity in the biggest way. It would be quite the statement to keep the stadium in its current name rather than changing to a random brand name.

Despite being open since 2019, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is still without a sponsorship deal for the naming rights of the ground. Now, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has explained why, with the help of chief commercial officer Todd Kline.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is one of the finest sporting venues in England, if not the world. The 62,850-seater stadium has state-of-the-art facilities and has played host to a number of other sporting and entertainment events over the years.

It is thought Daniel Levy and the club have been searching for a lucrative deal to name the stadium after a particular brand, but no such deal has materialised as of yet.

The venue is also part of the Euro 2028 bid from the UK and Ireland, but it is said that any sponsorship deal would mean Tottenham‘s ground could not be included in the proposal due to UEFA restrictions on brand-named stadiums for major tournaments (The Times).

Spurs are looking for the right brand

At the recent Q+A event with the fans, Daniel Levy was asked about the delays in striking a sponsorship deal for the stadium, and Football.London have shared what was said.

Chief commercial officer Todd Kline stepped in to answer first, saying: “Naming rights deals are complicated and we only have one opportunity to name the stadium. Getting the term, fee and brand partnered with all correct are difficult.”

Levy then added: “As well as identifying the right brand, the sector the brand operates in is important. Finding a brand and sector that matches the club’s values is vital.

“There is a trade off with the club’s own brand; where the value of the exposure of brand ‘Tottenham Hotspur Stadium’ in different markets draws in other revenue and benefits.”

Spurs Web Opinion

By the sounds of it, Levy is in no rush to make a deal happen unless it is with a brand that can surpass the weight that the name ‘Tottenham Hotspur’ carries itself.

The club is huge overseas in various regions like Asia and now Australia, too, and that will likely form a major part of the search for a sponsor.

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed they will be trialling the inclusion of a drummer at the stadium next season in a bid to improve the match day atmosphere.

In an email to supporters, the club revealed that 64% of supporters surveyed who are situated in the south stand have backed the idea which will see the drummer act as a catalyst for those who want to sing.

The club also reassured those who were not in favour that the drumming would not be a constant throughout the match as witnessed in leagues on the continent such as the Bundesliga and instead, will drum intermittently.

Drummer to return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Tottenham previously had allowed a drum to be used at White Hart Lan with ‘Dan the Drum’ having helped to create the atmosphere at the old ground, only for it to be stopped.

While Hart Lane was being demolished, Tottenham temporarily relocated to Wembley and after just one match at the national stadium, the club scrapped their plan to play drum noises over the PA system in an effort to help create an atmosphere inside the ground following negative feedback (The Times).

SpursWeb Opinion

While the return of the drum is a welcome addition to help try to improve the atmosphere, the bigger issue is that many of the club’s supporters are being priced out of attending matches in N17 due to the astronomical ticket hike which has been imposed.

This decision needs to be reversed, and maybe, many of those who created the atmosphere at WHL will again be able to cheer on their side in person.

New Tottenham Hotspur signing Manor Solomon has been asked what he is looking forward to in the season ahead and revealed that he cannot wait to play in the club’s impressive stadium.

Solomon arrived at Tottenham on a free transfer earlier this summer after his contract with Shakhtar Donetsk, which was due to expire in December of this year, was terminated under FIFA’s Annex 7 amendment.

PERTH, AUSTRALIA – JULY 18: Manor Solomon of Tottenham runs down the field with the ball while under pressure from Jarrod Bowen of West Ham during the pre-season friendly match between Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United at Optus Stadium on July 18, 2023 in Perth, Australia. (Photo by James Worsfold/Getty Images)

The transfer was granted special dispensation due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the suspension of all footballing activities in the country.

The Israeli attacker impressed during a loan spell with Premier League side Fulham last season, during which time he bagged five goals in a dazzling period of form between February and March of this year (Transfermarkt).

So far in his Tottenham career, Solomon has caught the eye with his creativity and attacking play across two friendlies during pre-season.

It is thought the 24-year-old has also been ‘on fire’ during training sessions with his new club (Football.London).

Manor Solomon can’t wait to play in Spurs’ stadium

In a chat with the club as part of the Spurs Diary Room Q+A, Solomon was asked about what he is excited about this season with his new club and mentioned how impressed he is by the club’s stadium.

He said: “I’m really excited. I went to the stadium a couple of days after I joined, it was brilliant to see it, it’s so beautiful. I can’t way to play there.”

So far, Solomon has only played away from home, in both Australia and Asia. He will get a chance to play at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium for the first time this coming Sunday, when his former club, Shakhtar Donetsk, travel to London for a friendly.

Spurs Web Opinion

Manor Solomon has had a really encouraging start to his time with Tottenham, and could prove to be a really valuable asset to us this season. It is really great to see how happy he is to be at the club and you get the impression he is going to hit the ground running for Spurs.

Destiny Udogie has taken time out of his first pre-season tour with Tottenham Hotspur to discuss life at the club and his progress over the summer so far.

Udogie was signed last summer by Tottenham, but spent the 2022/23 campaign back on loan with his former side Udinese.

The youngster impressed over the course of 34 appearances for the Italian side last year, registering three goals and four assists along the way (Transfermarkt).

There are high hopes for the 20-year-old now he has finally joined up with Spurs permanently, with the Italian expected to be given ample opportunity to make his mark under new boss Ange Postecoglou.

Despite Spurs losing 3-2 to West Ham in the first game of their pre-season tour, Udogie made his Lilywhites debut and had quite the impact, scoring a clever header to bring Tottenham back into the game against their London rivals.

Destiny Udogie feels a positive connection at Spurs

Speaking to the club’s YouTube channel as part of the Diary Room series, Udogie was in a buoyant mood about the early days of his Spurs career and praised the teammates and staff he has met so far.

He said: “I’m so happy to be here. Everyone is so nice and kind, they are good people. They are helping me to come into the team very well. We have a good connection.

“We are doing very well here in Australia. The training is tough, different to in Italy, but I am getting used to it. We are training hard to keep the ball, at high intensity.

“[This tour] is very important for me to get to know the staff and the team. I can’t wait to start, and I will give my best. There is a big opportunity [next season].”

On the prospect of playing in the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, Udogie explained how he “can’t wait” and described it as “the big dream” for him.

Spurs Web Opinion

Most Spurs fans were excited about what Destiny Udogie could do for us, and his debut did not disappoint. I’ve a feeling this kid is going to flourish under Postecoglou, and be a real star this season.

Eleven full-time managers, hundreds of players, and one league cup—the only constant through all that is Daniel Levy.

Prior to investment group ENIC’s takeover in 2001 (Guardian), Tottenham had won the most FA Cups in the competition’s prestigious history, something to be genuinely proud of.

Spurs waved the flag for success in cup competitions, with trophies coming both domestically and in Europe, as they were the first English side to win a European competition (The Sportsman).

Regrettably, Spurs have barely been able to live up to that legacy of being a great cup team during the Daniel Levy era of Tottenham Hotspur.

In 2001, Lord Alan Sugar sold Spurs for £22 million to ENIC. Daniel Levy was then appointed to the board and is currently the longest-serving chairman of any Premier League club (ECA).

Levy sought to usher in a new era for Tottenham, immediately setting his long-term plans in motion to see Tottenham not only grow as a club on the pitch but as an institution of it too.

Under Levy’s leadership, Spurs have constructed a state-of-the-art training facility, as well as an immaculate, billion-pound stadium that consistently wins awards for its environmental friendliness, functionality, and ingenuity (RIBA). Levy played a massive role in both development projects.

Despite raising Tottenham’s valuation from £22 million in 2001 to over £2.7 billion in 2023 (Statista) and finding themselves ranked 9th among the most valuable clubs in the world (Forbes), Levy has had his fair share of criticism over the years, mostly towards football-related activity.

Off the pitch, Spurs fans can see that Levy has done a stellar job in his regeneration of North London while also taking Spurs from a consistently lower or mid-table club to one that now challenges Europe’s elite competitions, even being 90 minutes away from winning the most prestigious club trophy in the world, the Champions League [BBC].

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy with his hand on his face

Has Levy taken the club as far as he possibly can?

I’m going to highlight some of his biggest mistakes and some of his biggest successes to determine whether Daniel Levy is deserving of our love and respect.

Hugo Lloris in his shot-stopping prime, Rose and Walker bombing up the wings, Jan and Toby the Belgian walls, Wanyama the rock, Dembele the ballerina built like a tank, Eriksen pulling the strings, Dele with his youthful exuberance, Sonny finding fiery consistency, Harry Kane the talisman, and Mauricio Pochettino at his charismatic best This was Tottenham from 2016–2018, as you remember it.

Fresh off of finishing second in the league, Tottenham then became the first English club to not make a single transfer in the following summer transfer window, choosing to rely on the players that were currently at the club, something that the English game had never seen before. [Evening Standard]

Spurs even started the 2018-19 campaign strongly, thrashing Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United 3-0, with many pundits alluding to Tottenham’s strong squad unity and growing resilience as reasons for their ongoing successes (Sky Sports).

However, as the season raged on, Spurs began to run out of steam and were desperately in need of fresh blood in the January window to renew their title charge. Alas, no signings came again.

Daniel Levy failed to back Pochettino with quality signings to further his philosophy for two transfer windows in a row, leading to the stagnation of the squad and eventually a notable decline.

Looking back on Pochettino’s sacking in 2019, he himself alluded to the need for a painful rebuild, something many Spurs fans could see even then (Evening Standard).

Many fans will point to the prime example of Arsenal and how Spurs should have conducted their business after finishing second. Mikel Arteta’s side had just come off an exhausting race with merciless Manchester City and ultimately finished in second place.

Choosing not to rest on their laurels, Arteta is immediately backed with three strong signings (with potentially more to come), with one of them being the £105 million acquisition of West Ham captain and England starlet Declan Rice, (BBC) a marquee signing for Arteta to build his team around, something that Spurs fans will argue that Levy should have done in 2018.

Pivoting to my personal biggest gripe with Levy, I detest his involvement in the infamous European Super League. The ESL was shockingly introduced to the world on October 15, 2021, and saw ruthless backlash and condemnation from fans globally.

UEFA are no angels themselves, and they cannot be seen as the “good guys” in this ordeal; however, the ESL epitomised pure greed, and Daniel Levy had Tottenham involved by being part of the 12 founding teams (Super League).

There are a few ways to look at the Super League and Spurs’ involvement: should Levy have been commended for building Tottenham’s stature to such a level that they were even in that conversation?

Or should he have opted out of the operation, siding with the fans’ demands that we would be better off with the tried-and-tested English pyramid system? Was it worth betraying our core values for new and greater financial avenues?

The fans spoke out and backed Levy into a corner to pull out of the Super League fiasco despite economic incentives to be part of it. Spurs weren’t the only ones to face backlash either, with every ‘Big 6’ English club coming to their senses and exiting it (Reuters).

What followed was a statement from Levy in which he claimed he was trying to support the wider football pyramid “We felt it was important that our club participate in the development of a possible new structure that sought to better ensure financial fair play and financial sustainability while delivering significantly increased support for the wider football pyramid,” (Tottenham Hotspur).

Daniel Levy’s tenure has not been perfect; however, there are credible and tangible reasons why Spurs haven’t been successful. Tottenham have faced unprecedented and fierce competition from state-funded clubs such as the arrival of Roman Abramovic to Chelsea in 2003 (The Guardian) and the much-maligned takeover of Manchester City by Sheikh Mansour and the UAE in 2008 (The Guardian), two clubs that have had seemingly infinite resources and finances pumped into them in order to win every trophy available.

Historical giants Manchester United, Arsenal, and Liverpool were always going to be threats, as they’re massive institutions that hold fan bases globally and see league-leading revenues come in from that.

Yes, Spurs have had ample opportunities to win trophies, such as the heartbreaking handball in Madrid, Leicester’s runaway 5000-1 fairytale, league cup final defeats, and more.

However, Daniel Levy has masterminded the club’s rise from mid-table mediocrity in the 1990s and 2000s to financial flourishment in the higher echelons of the Premier League today.

He’s had his fair share of luck, with the appointment of Martin Jol, bringing champagne football back to the lane, and restoring the club’s ‘To Dare is to Do’ insignia, which Harry Redknapp furthered.

Catching lightning in a bottle with Gareth Bale, seeing him develop into a global superstar, and the inspired appointment of Mauricio Pochettino. All this, among other smaller things, accelerated Tottenham’s progress as a football club, perhaps faster than Levy was prepared for.

The ill-timed stadium move after we spent the 2015-16 campaign unbeaten at home and failing to reinforce the squad at all during the two transfer window droughts are perfect examples of Levy not being ready to facilitate the great football team we had on the pitch.

Has Daniel Levy hit his ceiling in 2023 with just how far he can take Tottenham?

Countless times, we’ve been just 90 minutes away from winning trophies. Levy has built a world-class stadium and training facility to match the club’s growing ambitions, including new partnerships such as the first of its kind with Formula 1, (Formula 1) and since 2020 he’s invested over £440 million into our first team.

Ultimately, there’s a grand old Tottenham song called “When the Year Ends in One,” which was commemorated to celebrate Spurs reaching the 1991 FA Cup, which they went on to win. The song proudly boasts that anytime the year ends in a ‘1, Spurs win trophies (YouTube).

Since Daniel Levy’s appointment, that is no longer the case. A damning indictment of his tenure.

Daniel Levy deserves respect for establishing us among the wealthiest European elites.

That respect will only turn into love when he finally delivers us meaningful silverware and outlines a clear vision for Spurs to create their own echo of glory, akin to the great Bill Nicholson, whose ‘glory glory Tottenham Hotspur’, feels so far long ago.

Tottenham already possess some of the finest sporting facilities in the country, if not the world, but chairman Daniel Levy is not content with stopping there.

The club opened the doors to its state-of-the-art stadium in 2019, and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has since played host to various sporting events ranging from the NFL, to boxing, and has even hosted concerts for some of the biggest musicians in the world.

With a capacity of 62,850, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is the third largest football ground in England.

Alongside this, the Hotspur Way training facilities are among the best in the country, with the highest spec of technology and equipment installed to ensure the club is able to compete at the top level.

Tottenham secure land for yet more expansion

Tottenham Hotspur were named the “preferred bidders” on an area of land at Whitewebbs Park back in 2021, and now the lease has been confirmed. A report from Football.London offers all the key details.

Despite 788 objections from local residents and council members, Enfield council has announced it will lease more than half of the Whitewebbs space to Tottenham for the next 25 years.

Spurs’ plans include transforming 18% of the park into a new academy facility for women and girls that will “feed into Women’s Super League side Tottenham Hotspur Women.”

The club will also develop a Sports Turf Academy, with the aim of “providing employment and training opportunities for a new generation of sports turf, greenkeeping, horticultural and mechanical staff.”

Concerns over the environmental impact of the proposals should be alleviated by news that Tottenham Hotspur has committed to investing in “parkland and wild meadows.”

The club will pay for work on the Southern half of the land, in an effort towards “improving biodiversity and [creating] improved paths for walking, cycling and horse riding.”

Tottenham now just need to submit the planning application for their proposed developments. They will be wary, however, of those opposing the project who plan to “challenge the decision in court.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The rate at which this club expands, and the scale to which it continues to push forward, is admirable. These plans all sound really exciting and should benefit a lot of people.

Tottenham Hotspur have announced they will play a pre-season friendly against Shakhtar Donetsk on Sunday August 6th.

The fixture which will be held at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is dedicated to the people of Ukraine and will raise funds for Shakhtar’s charitable foundation, in support of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine as a result of the armed conflict with Russia.

Tottenham’s other three pre-season fixtures are taking place in Australia, Singapore and Thailand with the match against the 14-time Ukrainian champions representing the first opportunity for supporters to see Ange Postecoglou‘s new-look side in action in north London.

Spurs confirm pre-season fixture against Shakhtar Donetsk

Spurs will make a financial contribution and an additional donation of net proceeds from ticket sales to ‘Shakhtar Social’, which has provided financial support, humanitarian and medical assistance to children and families across Ukraine since the war broke out last year.

Supporters will be hoping to see some of the club’s new signings including goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who joined yesterday from Empoli while James Maddison is set to join Spurs from Leicester City.

Postecoglou said ahead of the match: “Shakhtar is a side that delivers domestic success on a consistent basis and will provide a perfect test for us ahead of the new season.

“However, as we all know, this match represents so much more than football – it’s an opportunity for everyone at the Club and our fans to come together in showing support and solidarity with the people of Ukraine during unimaginably difficult times.

“It promises to be a special occasion, for me personally, as it will be my first time in front of our home fans, and for the world to once again see how football has the unique ability to unite people in support of good causes.”

Tickets for the Shakhtar match will be priced as follows:

  • Adults: £25
  • Juniors (under-18): £5
  • Family package (2 adults, 2 juniors): £50

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is a state-of-the-art arena, which opened four years ago. The atmosphere on matchdays, however, leaves much to be desired.

Although the building costs incurred were significantly higher than the initial budget, the new ground at N17 is an asset to the club. It has the capacity to host NFL matches, boxing fights and concerts. It will also host the world’s first in-stadium electric karting facility, from August 2023.

Fans Supporters

This is impressive, but many supporters are frustrated that the club cares more about running a business model that generates profits which are not reinvested into the squad.

Although the structure is a sight to behold, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will not be topping any tables for its atmosphere.

The most important aspect of a stadium on a matchday is not how aesthetically pleasing it appears, but how loud the fans inside are. The atmosphere at the new stadium has generally been underwhelming.

The issue at hand

The problem has not merely been created by supporters failing to generate a good atmosphere, but by fans being separated who used to sit together at the old Lane.

Those who have loyally attended matches for many years have been spread across a stadium with a capacity which exceeds 60,000. A stadium which attracts plenty of tourists and spectators who are unlikely to get any chants going.

The club shows little concern that younger supporters, who are often the most enthusiastic on matchdays, are being priced out. One Hotspur membership fees rose again ahead of the 2023/24 season. This is contributing to the soulless atmosphere.

The singing section

Hope remains, however, as a campaign dubbed the ‘Return of the Shelf’ has been created to unite the most vocal supporters in a singing section. Work has also been done to fly large flags pre-match in the South Stand and to create new songs about the players.

Those behind the campaign for a singing section should be commended for their efforts. It is a step in the right direction that fans have taken the initiative as a collective group to create a better atmosphere.

The club has also shown signs of progress with fan engagement by accommodating the new singing section. Yet there are still many hurdles which stand in the way of the ‘Return of the Shelf’ from succeeding.

Two separate sections

Firstly, two different sections have been allocated – areas 324 and 249 (Spurs Song Sheet). This poses an issue because the section has already been split in two, with multiple blocks in between.

To make the section as effective as possible, all the supporters involved with the campaign need to be in the same area to create a wall of noise.

The stadium should be large enough to relocate some season ticket holders without moving them too far from their existing section. This is something which needs to be done if the club is serious about backing the campaign.

Positioning of the sections

Another problem is the positioning of the sections, as they are nearer the back of the Sound Stand. The away supporters are given a good corner close to the pitch to make noise. The home supporters seeking to improve the atmosphere have been denied this privilege.

The sections benefit from being situated in a one-tier stand, but generating an atmosphere would be much easier if there was one larger section on the first few rows.

Many clubs have ultras or other supporters’ groups which are placed closest to the pitch in order to maximise the noise.

Tottenham on the other hand has slotted the new singing section into the most convenient areas. The club should have made the compromise and offered a more preferable section.

This would result in the Return of the Shelf creating a much-improved atmosphere that the players and club alike could be proud of.

No safe standing

Finally, the sections allocated are seated parts of the stadium. The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has rail seating designed for safe standing, but the supporters most likely to be standing have not been allocated this.

Bans were issued in the early days of the ground for supporters guilty of persistent standing. This is no longer the case, but it would make more sense that the standing section is occupied by those singing for ninety minutes.

Instead, it is casuals on a day out and supporters who watch the game in silence who inhabit the area. Those who make little noise may as well sit down to watch matches.

The way forward

Ultimately, the Return of the Shelf campaign is a much-needed positive at Spurs. If it is to be successful, the club must do better in accommodating it in a single section close to the action on the pitch where it will best improve the atmosphere.

The 62,850-seater stadium has played host to a number of other sporting events from boxing to the NFL, and has also seen a range of top musicians take to the stage there.

While performances on the football pitch may have been less than desirable of late, there is no denying Tottenham are among the most shrewdly run clubs in the game.

The commercial side of things has always been a strong point for chairman Daniel Levy, and his ambitions to raise the club’s profile show no sign of letting up.

Tottenham want to add five stories to hotel project

In a new report from Architects Journal, plans have been revealed for Tottenham Hotspur to extend the proposed hotel by five floors and 17 metres in height.

The F3 Architects-designed hotel-and-residential tower will comprise of 180 hotel rooms and 49 residential apartments.

According to the report, these changes will “create a slenderer base and greater separation from the newly built stadium, as well as further defining the blade-like appearance and slenderness of the upper part of the hotel building.”

Spurs were granted the original planning permission for the 22-storey building back in 2016 alongside the football stadium.

The hotel is set to be located just south of the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

According to Tottenham representatives, the altered plans “take into account developments within the hotel sector, as well as updates in building regulations and planning policy across a number of areas since planning permission was granted.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I really wish even half the energy that is put into the commercial side of things was invested into the actual football club at Tottenham.

We are fast becoming one of the biggest clubs in the world from an economic perspective, and now we need the on-field success to match it.

Football.London have revealed that Haringey Council has approved the return of Tottenham’s iconic Cockerel Clock, which is now set to be placed on the high street outside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The clock, which dates back to the 1950s, was previously attached to The Red House, just outside of White Hart Lane, and is currently housed within the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium‘s west atrium.

Football.London reveals that the clock has now been restored by Gillett & Johnston, the company that manufactured it all those decades ago.

The historic clock is now ready to be displayed outside the club’s new stadium, with Haringey Council granting permission for it to be placed at the corner of High Road and Park Lane, attached to a lamp post.

The report states that in order to prevent damage, the clock will be in the line of CCTV and the lamppost will be coated in an anti-climb paint so it remains slippery and difficult to climb.

Spurs Web Opinion

This is a fantastic touch and will add a bit more history to our new home.

While the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is a magnificent venue, it does seem to lack touches of heritage that the old White Hart Lane had, and this will certainly help rectify that to some degree.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has joked that his next challenge in professional football would be for his side to score a goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Despite City’s dominance in recent years which has seen them win the Premier League title in three successive seasons, they have struggled to beat Tottenham when they make the trip to north London.

Guardiola’s side are yet to win at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium which opened its doors back in 2019 and are still yet to even register a goal there, which is remarkable by their own standards.

City’s best chance to score at the billion-pound venue came during the Champions League came in April 2019 when Guardiola’s side were awarded a penalty in the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal, only for Hugo Lloris to save well from Sergio Aguero’s spot-kick.

What have been Manchester City’s previous results at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium?

9th April 2019 – Tottenham Hotspur 1:0 Manchester City (UEFA Champions League)

2nd February 2020 – Tottenham Hotspur 2:0 Manchester City (Premier League)

21st November 2020 – Tottenham Hotspur 2:0 Manchester City (Premier League)

15th August 2021 – Tottenham Hotspur 1:0 Manchester City (Premier League)

5th February 2022 – Tottenham Hotspur 1:0 Manchester City (Premier League)

City are on course to complete a treble this year having already secured the Premier League crown and have booked their place in the finals of the FA Cup and Champions League, respectively.

Guardiola was asked during an interview by Sky Sports: “If you were to complete the treble this season, what would be the next challenge for you?”

The 52-year-old took a second to pause and think before replying with a smile: “To score a goal against the Spurs away.”

According to finance expert Kieran Maguire, Tottenham Hotspur may end up pulling out of the Euro 2028 bid as they look to secure a big-money branding deal for their stadium.

Since opening in 2019, Tottenham have been looking for a lucrative sponsorship deal for the naming rights of the Tottenham Hotspur stadium

The state-of-the-art venue is regarded as one of the best in the world, with facilities for various sporting and entertainment events, ranging from NFL, boxing, and music concerts.

The 62,850-seater stadium has been selected as one of ten stadiums for the UK and Ireland’s bid to host Euro 2028 (Sky Sports).

However, UEFA rulings insist that any stadium name must be free of brand affiliation, which could cause issues for Spurs as they look for a sponsor (The Times).

A recent report from Football Insider suggested that UEFA would not make an exception to their ruling, despite Tottenham’s desire to discuss terms with companies like Google and Amazon.

Now, the same publication has word from Maguire that Spurs may end up abandoning their plan to help host Euro 2028 so that a sponsorship deal can go ahead.

Maguire said: “Spurs will continue looking for a multi-year deal with a naming rights partner.

“The money that will generate will dwarf any money they could potentially bring in from hosting two or three games in Euro 2028. Ultimately, the commercial decision takes priority.

“There will be flexibility in terms of hosting matches and it will be something the Tottenham board are happy to sacrifice.

“Daniel Levy was hoping to push this through, but the naming rights deal is the club’s top priority deal.”

I had a feeling it would go this way. There’s not a chance that Levy would consider ditching the sponsorship deal in favour of being a part of the Euro 2028 bid.

Given the commercial benefits of any branding, it’s no surprise that would take precedence for the Spurs chairman.

Tottenham Hotspur are still searching for a branded name for their stadium, but UEFA rulings could stand in the way of a reported £200 million deal.

The state-of-the-art stadium has been in use since October 2019, and is regarded as one of the top sporting venues in the world now.

With a capacity of 62,850, numerous advanced features, and being located in the heart of London, the Tottenham Hotspur stadium has been utilised for many different sports and events.

The versatility of the arena to host other events makes it one of the most desirable stadiums of its kind.

Tottenham Hotspur hope to host the Champions League final at some point after 2026 (Football Insider).

The venue has also been selected to be a part of the UK and Ireland’s bid to host Euro 2028 (Sky Sports).

It has previously been reported that Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of a top brand to sponsor their stadium could become an issue for the bid, as UEFA demands all venues used at major competitions remain unbranded (The Times).

Now, it seems that issue has resurfaced. The latest from Football Insider claims UEFA are unwilling to budge on their rules and will not make an exception for Tottenham Hotspur.

The report cites Google and Amazon as potential sponsors, with Spurs hoping to strike a “deal that will likely be worth in excess of £200 million over a 10-year-plus contract.”

The Etihad Stadium is prepared to be renamed the Manchester City stadium for the tournament, and the Aviva stadium in Ireland will be renamed the Dublin Arena.

However, it is thought Tottenham Hotspur have “shown less willingness to compromise.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I can totally imagine a scenario where the Spurs board push ahead with the decision to sign up with a big-name sponsor regardless of what it means for the Euro 2028 bid.

Whether UEFA will back down or not remains to be seen, but we know Daniel Levy gets what he wants most of the time.
