Cadena SER have revealed that Aston Villa do not just want to sign Giovani Lo Celso this summer but also want to beat Tottenham Hotspur to Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres.
The report explains that Unai Emery has his eye on a number of Villarreal players ahead of the summer transfer window, including both Lo Celso and Torres.
The publication states that the Spaniard’s interest in the midfielder and the centre-back is ‘beginning to border on obsession’.
Cadena SER reveal that both Villa and Tottenham have a ‘strong interest’ in Torres and that both Premier League clubs have already reached out to the 26-year-old’s representatives.
Both the North Londoners and the Midlands club are said to be willing to offer the defender a lucrative long-term deal and the player, who will enter the final year of his contract with Villarreal in June, is expected to make a decision on his future in the ‘coming weeks’.
The outlet also explains that ‘it is not clear’ if Villarreal plan on pursuing a permanent deal for Lo Celso and that the La Liga club’s decision might depend on whether or not they qualify for the Champions League.
Villa are said to be following the Argentine closely, thus further complicating matters for the Yellow Submarine.
Spurs Web Opinion
Torres’ stock is certainly not as high as it was a couple of years ago and I remain unconvinced about whether he is suited for the Premier League.
Much will also depend on Tottenham’s decision regarding Clement Lenglet and the decision is not likely to be made until a new head coach arrives through the door.
