Fabrizio Romano has reported that Aston Villa are closing in on the appointment of Monchi as their new Sporting Director ahead of his Sevilla exit.
The deal is said to be in the final stages after Aston Villa turned their attention to Monchi when a deal for Alemany collapsed.
This comes after Mundo Deportivo reported recently that Spurs were looking at the Sevilla man as a potential new Sporting Director in North London.
This comes after Tottenham were forced to part ways with Fabio Paratici earlier this year, and are now looking to fill their Sporting Director role following the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as manager.
Monchi apparently asked Sevilla for some time to reflect on his position at the club, but has decided to start another project away from La Liga.
Aston Villa beat Tottenham to Monchi
However, it appears Tottenham’s search for a new director will go on, as fellow Premier League side Aston Villa are close to confirming Monchi instead.

Spurs Web Opinion:
I’m assuming that things are moving behind the scenes at Spurs without the media getting wind, because I would find it strange if a new Sporting Director is not announced this month, to start work on July 1 like everyone else.
