Finally! Spurs put an end to their losing streak, with a far more confident Premier League display away to Brighton, winning the game 2-1.
A slight scare at the end of the game would have given fans flashbacks to Watford and Inter Milan, but Spurs held strong to secure the three points.
We take a look at five things we learned from the match:
Spurs can win!
Barring the errors in the dying minutes, that was the confident and assured display that fans have been looking for from their side in recent weeks.
Don’t get me wrong, it was still far from Tottenham’s free-flowing best, but the signs of improvement were finally there.
It was also nice to see that such Champions League heartbreak against Inter Milan wasn’t enough to keep the side’s spirits down, instead driving them on to their first win in four games.
Harry Kane is back among the goals!
Not only did Tottenham put an end to their September hoodoo, but Harry Kane was also back among the scorers with a fine first-half penalty.
But it wasn’t his goal that would have pleased Tottenham fans, but his overall game play. For the majority of the 90 minutes, Kane was marked out of the game and featured sparingly, but as Brighton were forced to come out of their half, he burst into life.
It was nice to see Kane bursting past people down the channels, overpowering them while driving towards goal, and getting his head down and his shots away.
Unfortunately most of his efforts were straight down the middle, but the finishing will come. For now we’ll take Kane showing glimpses of his normal self.
Trippier is lethal
Trippier showed once again why he now shares the role of chief free kick taker with Christian Eriksen.
The England right back stepped up from 20 yards today and curled a beautiful looking effort towards goal, for the ball to be halted by the swinging arm of Glenn Murray.
The shot looked to be travelling nicely, but it mattered not as a penalty was given, and Kane dispatched with aplomb.
That means that from Trippier’s last three direct efforts at goal from a free kick, he has scored two and won a penalty with the third.
Lamela strengthens Spurs’ options
Yet again, Erik Lamela came on for a cameo in the Premier League today, and yet again he proved to be decisive in the outcome of the match.
He has had his doubters in the Prem, but Lamela gives Tottenham a great option from the bench when defenders’ legs are a little weary.
Not only this, but if he does start a match, we then have either Son, Moura, or even both on the bench to offer the same threat.
Lamela has now scored 4 goals in his last 4 Premier League appearances for Spurs, with an assist to his name in that time too. And that’s with only 98 minutes on the pitch!
Dele is back
Oh, how we need him. Dele Alli is back in the Tottenham line up after a couple of weeks out through injury.
The young England man looked extremely influential as he came on late in the second half, skilfully linking up the play between midfield and Kane up front, something that Tottenham have been missing in recent weeks.
Alli is one of the few central midfield players in Tottenham’s ranks who can find space between the lines like this, and he will be a huge plus for them in the weeks ahead.
