Toby Alderweireld will be recalled to the first team squad for Tuesday’s visit to Brighton.
Toby has spent much of 2018 on the sidelines amid a contract dispute that has cast his future at the club in serious doubt. In fact Alderweireld hasn’t played since the FA Cup tie against Rochdale on February 18th however he will travel with the rest of the squad to the Amex Stadium for Tuesday’s Premier League clash.
“Toby will be in the squad” confirmed Pochettino in his Press Conference. “But I will decide if he plays tomorrow”
However according to The Mail Pochettino will not stand Alderweireld’s way if the defender tries to force his way out of Tottenham this summer.
It goes on to say how Alderweireld is keen to leave Spurs and is refusing to sign a new contract as a result and it adds that he will not face any resistance from Pochettino as he looks to engineer his Spurs exit.
The Mail understands that Pochettino has already accepted Alderweireld wants to move on and will leave the situation in the hands of Daniel Levy.
It goes on to say that if Levy receives an offer he deems acceptable for the Belgian, Pochettino is happy for Alderweireld to leave.
The article adds that Manchester United and Real Madrid are monitoring his situation with the Argentine tactician only wanting players who are fully committed to Tottenham. Indeed, Pochettino has shown a willingness to marginalise and sell players he feels aren’t completely on board.
Since returning from a hamstring injury Alderweireld has been left out in the cold by Pochettino for a number of high-profile matches and its added If Alderweireld doesn’t sign a new deal, we may be forced to sell the defender in the summer transfer window due to a well publicised complex clause in his current contract that would see us lose him for £25m or nothing in 2019.
